Funding roundup – week ending 05/13/11

Seed-stage

Gobble, an online marketplace for local fresh meals, raised $1.2 million in seed financing from a select group of Silicon Valley’s most successful investors, including Greylock Discovery Fund, Felicis Ventures, Founder Collective and SV Angel.

Early-stage

Alpine Data Labs, developer of the first solution for Big Data Predictive Insight,  received $7.5 million in Series A funding from Sierra Ventures, Mission Ventures, Sumitomo Corporation Equity Asia, the Asian arm of Sumitomo Corporation’s Strategic Venture Investment, and others.

BranchOut, a professional social network for Facebook, raised $18 million in Series B funding led by Redpoint Ventures with Accel Partners, Norwest Venture Partners, and Floodgate.

Social intelligence company Claritics received $1.5 million in Series A financing led by Cervin Ventures and TiE Angels.

Demandbase, provider of business to business marketing performance-improvement solutions, closed a $10 million round of financing.

Online gift network FreeMonee raised $11 million in initial funding from Opus Capital Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Sutter Hill Ventures, Pinnacle Ventures and Contrarian Group.

Social game developer Funzio secured $20 million in a Series A financing round led by IDG Ventures in the US and IDG Capital Partners in China.

Group Commerce, has raised a second round of more than $10 million.

LiquidSpace, the mobile application that helps anyone find a great space to work, secured $3.6 million of new funding in a Series A round led by Shasta Ventures with follow-on participation from FloodGate.

musiXmatch, provider of a song lyrics API, has closed a $3.7 million Series A funding round led by Italian investor Francesco Micheli Associates.

Official.fm, a management platform for music creators, raised $8 million in new funding.

Mobile finance app Pageonce closed a $15 million round of funding led by Morgenthaler Ventures, with participation from previous investors.

Proformative, an online resource for corporate finance executives, raised Series A funding of $1.1 million led by Bullpen Capital and Mike Maples of Floodgate

Social gaming studio Row Sham Bow raised $3 million from early stage venture capital firm Intersouth Partners.

Tabbedout raised $3.7 million more in funding, bringing its Series A round to a total of $5.75 million, mostly from New Enterprise Associates.

Online games publisher We R Interactive raised a $5 million second round of funding from “several new high-profile figures from the music, football, advertising and finance industries,” including Paul Fitzsimons, former media sector partner at Apax Partners, and Elio Leoni-Sceti, former CEO at EMI Music. Existing investors also participated in the round.

Late-stage

 Clearspring, provider of social content sharing platform AddThis, closed a $20 million Series D led by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP).

Gilt Groupe raised a $138 million fifth round from Softbank Group, General Atlantic, Matrix Partners, Goldman Sachs, New Enterprise Associates, Draper Fisher Jurvetson Growth, Pinnacle Ventures, TriplePoint Capital and Eastward Capital.
