  • Novant Health, a network of hospitals, physician clinics and outpatient facilities in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, announced an expanded partnership with the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina. The partnership includes the expansion of wellness programming, and support for youth sports, in the Y’s 17 locations across Alexander, Davie, Forsyth, Iredell, Stokes, Wilkes and Yadkin counties. It will also involve establishing physical and telehealth clinic locations; those telehealth portals, which will be placed in more rural locations, will be powered by TytoCare and will allow patients to connect to a Novant Health clinician who can virtually examine their heart, lungs, skin, ears, throat and abdomen. The partnership will also see the construction of a new 1,500-square-foot clinic located inside of the Winston Lake Family YMCA, which will offer primary care services, women’s and children’s services, rehabilitation services, and diabetes and nutrition support. While the new clinic is expected to open in late 2024, Novant Health has already begun providing on-site primary care for patients with its mobile community care cruiser, which it first unveiled in April of last year.
  • Academic health system Temple Health announced a strategic innovation collaboration with medical technology and automation solutions provider Masimo in order to focus on remote patient monitoring and telehealth, along with care automation. The two companies, which have partnered since 2008, outlined a series of initiatives they want to collaborate on going forward; they include deploying technologies, therapies, devices, and systems designed to advance patient-centered care, as well as raising awareness of the importance of health equity, which it plans to to "by leveraging their expertise and regional influence to positively impact access to quality care for all Philadelphia residents." Temple Health will also trial and refine Masimo's technologies in its “Collaboratory,” before they're broadly deployed, while they will also work together to reduce technology obsolescence in healthcare. It will also involve performing joint clinical research opportunities in in-patient, out-patient, and home-based settings.
  • Atrium Health, a nonprofit health system that is part of Advocate Health, the fifth-largest nonprofit health system in the United States, and Best Buy Health, the division of the retailer that's focused on wellness at home, aging at home, and care at home announced they are joining forces in order to develop new hospital at home offerings with the goal being, as the companies wrote, "to enable providers to deliver high-quality care to patients in the comfort of their own homes, while helping reduce emotional and financial burdens on patients and caregivers." That means that Atrium Health and Best Buy Health will address the requirements of at-home care programs by providing patient education, as well as helping implement technology in the home with the help of specially trained Geek Squad Agents to assist with logistics and technical support.
  • ReKlame Health, a mental health company focused on BIPOC communities, 
    announced that it joined Cigna in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. The company says that this now puts it on a path to reach 10,000 BIPOC patients. ReKlame creates customized plans that integrate multiple modalities and its team of providers are trained in cultural competency for behavioral health. In addition to offering insurance, it also makes care more affordable by providing cash pay visits at half the national average, while also offering a sliding scale based on need and income.
  • Rocket VR Health, a virtual reality digital therapeutics company transforming mental health treatments with interactive mindfulness meditations and evidence-based digital therapeutics, announced it initiated a randomized control trial with Massachusetts General Hospital. The 80-patient trial is examining the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of RVH's virtual reality digital therapeutic in improving quality of life, symptom burden, psychological distress and self-efficacy in adult patients with blood cancers admitted for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at MGH. Patients undergoing this type of treatment experience immense physical and psychological symptoms during a prolonged four-week hospitalization and endure significant short-term and long-term distress that affects their quality of life and their physical and psychological well-being.
  • Atropos Health, a company generating personalized real-world evidence at the point and pace of care, announced a teaming alliance with OMNY Health, a healthcare ecosystem facilitating cross-industry data sharing. This relationship will unlock novel insights from the de-identified data shared by participants within OMNY Health's network, creating more opportunities for evidence-based practice and medical research. The Atropos-OMNY teaming alliance will enable data activation across their respective platforms by catalyzing transformation of real world data into usable insights. With Atropos Health's Green Button Informatics Consult Service, OMNY and Atropos clients will have the option to leverage advanced solutions that provide novel real-world evidence responses to clinical questions, called Prognostograms, in under 48 hours.
  • FIND, a global alliance for diagnostics, and KILELE Health Association, a Kenyan grassroots non-profit organization, announced the launch of a community engagement coalition to expand cervical cancer screening in sub-Saharan Africa. The coalition, comprising a network of community and civil society organizations, will work to identify the obstacles that limit uptake of screening for the disease, raise awareness of preventive measures, advocate for urgent action to accelerate progress towards achieving national elimination targets by 2030, and provide user-led feedback and preferences to inform development and scale-up of new testing technologies and strategies.

  • Varjo, a provider of professional-grade VR/XR hardware and software, announced its partnership with machineMD, a medical device company, for the development of Neos, an innovative diagnostic device being developed for the early diagnosis of brain disorders. Neos will be integrated with the Varjo Aero headset and enable a complete, standardized, and instrument-based neuro-ophthalmologic examination using its built-in and industry-leading VR-based eye tracking solution.
  • Metanoia Sensing announced a new breath analyzer 'MetaNose' to help people monitor their fat (lipid) burning status. The device also provides insights into the users' metabolic health risk such as diabetic related conditions. MetaNose determines the metabolic condition of the user from a single breath, by utilizing an Micro-Electro-Mechanical System acetone sensor and a signal processing algorithm, which measure the volatile organic compounds in exhaled breath and analyze the oxidative stress of lipid metabolism. The proprietary algorithm enables MetaNose to provide accurate information about blood glucose metabolism (burning of carbs) versus lipid metabolism (burning of fat) to personalize user experience toward different fitness goals and monitor the effectiveness of ketogenic diet and workout routines.
  • Nomi Health, a direct healthcare company, announced the creation of the Nomi Health Charitable Foundation to advance the company’s efforts to expand access to high-quality affordable healthcare across the United States. The Foundation will take a comprehensive approach to break the healthcare inequity cycle, including removing barriers to care and addressing health disparities disproportionately impacting underserved communities. Nomi Health has donated $11 million since its founding in 2019 and is seeding the creation of the charitable foundation with an additional $5 million. The foundation will be continuously funded.
  • Twist Bioscience Corporation, a company enabling customers to succeed through its offering of high-quality synthetic DNA using its silicon platform, announced an integrated offering of antibody discovery services available to customers. The bone scaffolds are made with Evonik’s Resomer® polymers and are used for large and complex bone defects. Both companies initially began collaborating in 2019 on scaffolds for chest wall and breast reconstruction. BellaSeno’s custom-made, resorbable bone scaffolds bring a step-change in the way bone and soft tissue defects are treated by ensuring the correct anatomical positions of tissue grafts. Although tissue autographs are considered the gold standard for tissue regeneration, they sometimes lack stability and cannot be packed in a controlled manner. BellaSeno’s 3D-printed tissue scaffolds address these limitations.

  • Cloud DX, a health data platform, announced a new contract with a prominent Ontario health care organization specializing in heart health to establish a remote patient monitoring program for congestive heart failure patients. The company's Connected Health devices and data platform will replace the organization's current heart failure telehealth program. The 3-year contract aims to enroll congestive heart failure patients in a three-month remote monitoring program with up to 100 patients onboarded per month. The contract value is expected to be up to $171,000 CAD in first year.
  • Health Gorilla, a Health Information Network and interoperability provider, partnered with CLEAR, a secure identity verification platform, to launch Individual Access Services, which allows consumers to access their personal health information securely. The program will begin in Puerto Rico with the Puerto Rico Health Information Exchange and expand to other regions in the future. Gavin Newsom announced that California will not renew its multimillion dollar contract with Walgreens after the company said it would not dispense medication abortion in multiple states where abortion is legal. The California Department of General Services issued a formal notice “withdrawing a planned renewal of that agreement set to take effect on May 1, 2023” and “will explore other options for furnishing the same services,” according to a statement from Newsom’s office.
