Seed stage

FireLayers, a provider of security solutions for companies’ cloud applications and data, received an undisclosed amount of funding from YL Ventures. 

Local delivery service Kanga raised a seed round of $1 million, led by Scott Miller and Everett Steele.

Brand Embassy, which equips companies to answer customer service inquiries through social media channels, raised $1 million in seed funding from Rockaway Capital andSpread Capital.

Memeoirsan app that allows people to create books containing their e-mails, secured a $300,000 investment from Pozzoni Group.

Playbasis, a Thailand-based gamification startup, raised $770,000 in seed funding from Ardent Capital, 500 Startups and Axis Capital.

SoundFocus, a startup behind next generation hearing technology, raised $1.7 million in seed funding from investors including Kapor Capital, Y Combinator, Greg Badros, VegasTechFund, OVO Fund, RTA Capital, Garry Tan, Alexis Ohanian and HarjTaggar.

ShareDesk, a platform for flexible workplaces, closed a $1.1 million seed round led by Tim Draper.

Big data startup BlueTalon raised $1.5 million in a seed funding round from Data Collective.


Early stage

Cloud security company Apprity raised $8 million in a Series A round led by Norwest Venture Partners and Wing Ventures, along with individual investors Sohaib Abbasi, Amit Jasuja, Hasan Rizvi, and David Schneider.

Elastica, a new cloud security company, came out of stealth mode with $6.3 million from Mayfield Fund.

Mobile email application Acompli raised a $7.3 million Series A round of funding led by Redpoint Ventures, with participation from Harrison Metal and Felicis Ventures.

ThreatStream, provider of a cloud-based platform to examine cybersecurity threats, raised a $4 million Series A round of funding. Google Ventures led the round, with participation from Paladin Capital Group and individual investors Tom Reilly and Hugh Njemanze.

Strevus, a provider of risk and compliance management solutions for financial service institutions, received $5.6 million in Series A funding led by Blumberg Capital and with participation from U.S. Venture Partners and existing Angel investors.

On-demand car service Summon, formerly InstantCab, raised an undisclosed amount of funding from BMW i Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Initialized Capital, Beenos Partners, Greg Kidd, Khosla Ventures and Initialized.

Trumaker, a made-to-measure men's shirt company, raised $6.5 million in a round led by Javelin Venture Partners with participation from RRE Ventures and others.

Cloud-based payroll app ZenPayroll raised $20 million in Series A funding from General Catalyst and Kleiner Perkins.

myTomorrow, a Dutch startup that wants to disrupt the way patients with unmet medical needs access to development-stage treatments, raised $2.2 million from “friends and family."

Image recognition company ViSenze closed$3.5 million Series A round led by Rakuten Ventures, with participation from Walden International and UOB Venture Management.

Mayfield Fund closed a $108 million venture capital fund, Mayfield India II, its second dedicated India fund. Mayfield India II is managed by Mayfield India II Management.

GuestDriven, a hospitality software solution provider, raised over $3 million led by Plaza Ventures, Real Ventures, Structure Capital and joined by angels including Tony Cohen, Bob MacDonald, Joe Poulin, Peter Kern and John Granger.

Online shopping solution Tictail closed a Series A investment of $8 million led by Thrive Capital.

Outfittery, a curated shopping service, raised €13 million led by Highland Capital Partners Europe with participation from Holtzbrinck Ventures, Mangrove Capital Partners, High-Tech Gründerfonds, RI Digital Ventures and VC fund Kreativwirtschaft.

High school sports webtie Varsity News Network raised $3 million in Series A funding led by Arsenal Venture Partners, with participation including, but not limited to, North Coast Technology Ventures, RSL Venture Partners, Start Garden, Grand Angels, Northern Michigan Angels, First Step Fund, Muskegon Angels and the Michigan Angel Fund.

Social community Hubub raised $8.5 million in Series A funding from a number of private investors.

Inpria, a provider of high-resolution photoresists, received $4.7 million of a committed $7.3 million financing. Samsung Venture Investment Corp led the round with participation from Intel Capital and Applied Ventures.

Ticket selling platform TiqIQ raised a $1.7 million Series A funding round from undisclosed investors. 

zample, a cloud-based service that detects and matches audio and image content to opportunity, raised $2 million in venture funding from a network of private investors located in Silicon Valley. 

Mobile payment company Ezetap raised $8 million in Series B funding led by Helion Advisors, Social+Capital and Berggruen Holdings.

 Magisto, a service for creating personal movies on mobile devices, raised $2 million from Mail Ru Group.

ClubLocal, provider of a way to book and buy household services, raised a $10.7 millionround of funding led by Groupon, a group of individual investors, and two of the original founders of ReachLocal.

Customer intelligence platform Smarter Remarketer closed $7 million in financing led by Battery Ventures.

 

Late stage

Cylance, a math-based threat detection and prevention company, closed $20 million in Series B funding, supported by Blackstone, Khosla Ventures, Fairhaven Capital and a group of private investors.

Ridesharing service Sidecar raised $10 million in a round led by Union Square Ventures. Correlation Ventures, Avalon Ventures, SoftBank Capital and Lightspeed Ventures  also participated.

MINDBODY, a provider of business management software for beauty, health and wellness, raised $50 million from a syndicate of investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, Institutional Venture Partners, Catalyst Investors, W Capital Partners and Montreux Equity Partners.

Ionic Security, a data security provider, raised $25.5 million. The round was led by Google Ventures and Jafco Ventures, with the Webb Investment Network, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, ff Venture Capital, Tech Operators and Paul Judge, Ken Levine and Phillip Dunkelberger also participating.

Renaissance Learning, a cloud-based K-12 assessment and learning analytics company, raised a $40 million investment from Google Capital.

On-demand delivery service Postmates raised $16 million in capital for its Series B financing round led by Spark Capital with follow-on from existing investors.

Duolingo, a language learning platform, raised $20 million in funding from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Socialbakers, a social media analytics and optimization company, completed a $26 million Series C financing round led by Index Ventures, with Earlybird participating.

Intacct, a cloud financial management and accounting software company, raised $45 million in a round led by Battery Ventures. Bessemer Venture Partners, Costanoa Venture Capital, Emergence Capital, Sigma Partners, Split Rock Partners and Morgan Creek Capital Management also participated. 

TutorGroup, an online education platform, closed a $100 million Series B funding round. Alibaba Group, Temasek and Qiming Venture Partners also participated.

Hampton Creek, a food technology company, completed a $23 million Series B financing round led by Horizons Ventures, with participation from Jerry Yang and AME Cloud Ventures, Ali and Hadi Partovi, Jessica Powell, Scott Banister, Ash Patel, Khosla Ventures, Collaborative Fund, and Eagle Cliff.

Siemens Venture Capital launched a new, $100 million fund to back early-stage startups working in the areas of industrial automation and other digital technologies that can transform manufacturing. 

Investing platform Kapitall raised $13 million in a round led by Linden Venture Fund, along with Bendigo Partners.

NewSchools Seed Fund, which sources and supports high-impact education technology entrepreneurs, reached its fundraising goal of $12 million.

Big data startup Crayon Data received SGD 1.5 million in funding. Jungle Ventures led the round with participation from SPRING SEEDS Capital.
