Its latest partnership is with Mayo Clinic: the two companies, who have a longstanding relationship, announced this week that they entered a strategic healthcare collaboration for research and product development programs on medical imaging and theranostics.
Made up of Mayo Clinic and GE HealthCare scientists, technology developers, clinicians and other healthcare providers, The Strategic Collaboration for Innovation in Medical Imaging and Theranostics, as it's being called, is set to combine clinical research, product development, application of new clinical uses and techniques, and increased access for patients, with the ultimate goal of providing technology so clinicians can more accurately diagnose and treat medical conditions.
Collaboration activities and research will take place at Mayo Clinic’s campus in Rochester, Minnesota.
The two companies outlined four core areas of focus for this collaboration, including accelerating the development and clinical translation of advanced magnetic resonance technologies and technique to transform patient care through AI-enabled exams. They also want to transform cancer care through precise imaging and dosimetry of highly targeted theranostic agents, with the goal of creating broader access through more efficient radioisotope production.
The third goal is to make diagnostic and interventional ultrasound easier and faster to use and read, and they want to improve the patient imaging experience by leveraging multi-modal data, AI and digital health platforms as a way of streamlining clinical operations and support more personalized diagnosis and therapy.
“Mayo Clinic is globally acknowledged to be among the best in healthcare and care innovation. By collaborating with their scientists, inventors and healthcare providers, we will accelerate innovation and increase the clinical impact of our technologies beyond what either of our organizations could achieve independently,” Jan Makela, president and CEO of Imaging, GE HealthCare, said in a statement.
This is not the first parntership GE Healthcare has made around medical imaging: in November of 2022 GE Healthcare and MediView teamed up to combine AR and medical imaging, co-developing a new solution that will also allow for remote collaboration.
Since becoming its own company, GE Healthcare has also entered into an agreement to acquire IMACTIS, a company in the field of computed tomography interventional guidance, as well as buying ultrasound guidance startup Caption Health.
