Hammer joins tech investor, philanthropist Mitch Kapor to kick off the first day

We're super excited to welcome MC Hammer as one of our keynotes at Vator Splash Oakland.

Hammer, an Oakland native and renowned entertainer and entrepreneur, will be one of the morning keynotes kicking off our inaugural two-day tech and business education event, to be held at Jack London Square on the Oakland waterfront this May 6-7.

Hammer will be interviewed by Erik Moore, an early investor in Zappos and founder of Base VC, in a session entitled, “Tech Startups, the A's and Oakland’s Bright Future”.

Get your event tickets now before they jump at the door! Special tickets are reserved for East Bay-based startups. Register now!

This session immediately follows an interview by me with Oakland-based tech founder, investor and philanthropist Mitch Kapor.

The agenda for the event currently features a lineup of luminary speakers, including top VC, angel and corporate investors, tech founders, entrepreneurs and civic leaders.

Mayor of Oakland Jean Quan is providing a welcome to the event for the event’s first foray into Oakland.

We are bringing out all of Oakland's tech and entrepreneurial role models at this event. Part of the reason is because we want to showcase Oakland's assets as well as discuss how we can build up Oakland into an entrepreneurial and tech hub.

As I've pointed out many times, Oakland has an opportunity to see SOMA-like growth in the Jack London Square area. We just need to bring more key tech people (investors and startups) to the area.

Some other speakers include James Freeman, the Founder & CEO of Blue Bottle Coffee, who will be interviewed by Tony Conrad (Partner, True Ventures); Danny Kennedy (co-founder and President of Sungevity), who will talk about the Future of Solar; Tim Draper (Founder, DFJ & Draper University), who will be interviewed by Heidi Roizen (Entrepreneur & DFJ Partner).

Get your event tickets now before they jump at the door! Special tickets are reserved for East Bay-based startups. There's also special dinners for our speakers as well as an afterparty with the popular Sungevity band killaWatts. Want to mingle in an intimate dinner setting with Hammer, Moore and Kapor and party with killaWatts? Get your tickets!

While known throughout the world as a three-time Grammy award-winning artist, Hammer is also considered a tech-savvy visionary who has both founded and invested in successful companies. He has connected with the highest levels of political leadership, including being invited to the White House by three presidents and sharing the stage with President Barack Obama and Mark Zuckerberg at Facebook headquarters, to name a few examples.
