FixYa identifies top five issues with major phones

Almost every phone has problems with battery; camera button, connectivity also common

If you’ve got a smartphone, chances are you’ve got a laundry list of complaints, no matter which one you’ve got. Either the battery is terrible, or the screen resolution is sub-par, or maybe you have trouble connecting to the network; every phone has its problems.

In a new report, FixYa has taken the Samsung Galaxy S III, the iPhone 4S, the Nokia Lumia 900, the HTC Titan II, the Galaxy Nexus, and the BlackBerry Curve and has identified the top five problems that users are encountering with each phone, and how to fix them.

Samsung Galaxy SIII

First up is the Samsung Galaxy SIII, where a whopping 50% of users cite microphone malfunction as a problem they have encountered with the phone, meaning they are unable to hear the person they are talking to.

FixYa’s suggested solution is to either update the phone software or restore it to factory settings.

Another common problem with the Galaxy SIII was the device overheating, with 15% citing this as an issue. At least we now know that the phone will not explode.

iPhone 4S

When it comes to the iPhone 4S, it is not surprising that 45% of people are dissatisfied with the battery life, which has always been an issue with the phone due to a bug in iOS 5, but one that was supposed to have been fixed with an update. ( own an iPhone 3GS, and I can say from personal experience that the battery on the iPhone is terrible on that phone as well.)

"At its core, the iPhone 4s is a power hungry device that comes with a host of features, which suck up battery life," FixYa says.

So what’s the solution? The best you can do is try to extend the battery life by not having your phone run as many things at once. Don’t leave your phone plugged in for a long time at 100%, turn down the brightness of the phone, and turning off Siri, location services, push and Bluetooth.

Nokia Lumia 900

The main complaint about the Lumia 900 was a tinted purple screen, with 25% saying they had this problem, which FixYa says can be solved with a software update.

20% of users had problems with the camera button, battery life and inability to find apps.

To fix the camera button issues, FixYa’s solution is to enter standby mode to make sure the camera can wake up from there.

HTC Titan II

For the Titan II, 35% of users were unhappy with the screen resolution, which, unfortunately, there does not seem to be any fix for, since every Microsoft phone has the same 800x480 resolution.

The other complaints with the phone were not being able to find apps, camera quality and battery life.

Galaxy Nexus

Like the Galaxy SIII, microphone malfunction was, by far, the biggest complaint, with a majority of users saying they had this problem.

While 55% said their microphone did not work, 20% said they had bad battery life.

Once again, like the Galaxy SIII, resetting the device will fix the microphone issue. If that does not work, FixYa suggests some downloads that may help.

BlackBerry Curve

RIM may be looking like it is on the way out for good, but some people are still using Blackberrys. And their main issue is the phone randomly rebooting, which sounds like an incredible annoying problem to have. This must be a new issue, since I had a Blackberry Curve until around a year ago, and I have no recollection of the phone doing this.

The cause of the reboots seems to be the memory card, which needs to either be reformatted or replaced.
