Inflight Web provider Gogo teams with hotel booking app HotelTonight to help last minute travelers

Inflight Web company Gogo upped their game on Friday by announcing a partnership with hotel-booking mobile app HotelTonight, which enables the company to offer their users last minute hotel booking capabilities from their inflight platform.

The service will be available to passengers flying to over 30 different US destinations, including New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. Free access ccess to HotelTonight will be available for in-air booking through Wi-fi enabled tablets and mobile devices.  A promotional tab for HotelTonight will be visible on Gogo's website.

Gogo currently runs its inflight Web platform on 1400 planes, on all domestic flights on AirTran Airways and Virgin America flights, on all domestic mainline Delta Air Lines flights and on select Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Frontier Airlines, United Airlines, and US Airways flights. Their services constitute in-flight connectivity for about 85% of all North American commercial flights.

The company runs a 24-hour Pass plan for $12.95 and a monthly plan called Gogo Unlimited for $39.95. The company has a short (and frankly sort of entertaining) demo about how their inflight Wifi service technology works.

Founded in 1991, Gogo has over 400 employees, with offices in Itasca IL, Broomfield CO, and London. The company filed with the SEC only on December 23 to raise $100 million for an IPO. The company brought in $148 million in sales for the 12 month period ending in September 2011.

"Our new multimedia platform enables our airline partners to customize online experiences in air... to provide a robust set of experiences such as destination-related content, travel information, news, movies, shopping and more," said Gogo's chief marketing officer, Ash ElDifrawi in the company's release. "Much of this content is free to passengers via their own Wi-Fi enabled device."

For their part, HotelTonight claims to be "the only booking app that is made-for-mobile," with version available for both iOS and Android, offering services for markets in 30 different cities. Founded in 2010, the company has raised $12.3 million in funding so far, a $3.25 million series A funding in October 2010 and a $9 million funding only a month later.

Investors in HotelTonight include Battery Partner, Accel Partners, and First Round Ventures.
