CarbonCart.com won the second annual KPMG, AlwaysOn and Vator.tv competition seeking game-changing private companies in the clean tech industry.

CarbonCart.com, a non profit based in Duvall, Wa, took the top spot with 42 votes and a 5-star rating. The profile received almost 4000 views. CarbonCart.com essentially resells Amazon’s products and gives a portion of its referral fees to renewable energy initiatives. Amazon pays up to 10% of the purchase price in referral fees

Serious Materials came in second place. The Sunnyvale, Calif-based company took home the silver, with 33 votes. Serious Materials develops and manufactures sustainable green building materials that dramatically reduce the impact of the ‘built environment’ on the climate. For instance, Vator.tv used its service for a quiet solution in the filming studio. Serious Materials helped reduce a certain whoosh sound from right outside the studio.

Green Plug came in third place. The company claims to be the first developer of digital technology that enables real-time collaboration between electronic devices and their power sources.

“What surprised me was that we not only received pitches from around the globe (US, Korea, Australia etc) but also that the companies spanned across different sectors of clean tech – building materials, energy storage, energy efficiency, energy generation, transportation, fuels, etc,” said Awais Khan director of KPMG and also one of the judges of this contest. “This just validates the fact that there are many great entrepreneurs all over the world aspiring to build great companies to play their role in solving the energy crisis.”

Congratulations to Carbon Cart, Serious Materials, and Green Plug for a job well done.

As the first place winner, Carbon Cart will have the opportunity to give a six-minute CEO pitch to an audience of AlwaysOn investors and attendees at the Going Green conference in September. They will also be featured in AO’s quarterly print “blogozine” and on the Vator.tv and AlwaysOn Web sites.
