Events.com has now raised a total of $17 million in funding

Going to an event is an inherently social experience. Very few people I know like to go places alone. Yet, its often difficult to contact event organizers with questions, or to find other people who are going to the same event. On the other side, for the organizers, they don't have great ways of reaching out to their attendees. The lines of communication are not very wide open.

That is the problem that event management platform Events.com tries to solve. It has raised a new round of funding, the company announced on Wednesday.

The size of the round was undisclosed, but it was led by Arctaris and with participation from La Jolla Holding Co. and Moore Venture Partners. This latest funding brings the total raised for the company to over $17 million.

Previous investors in Events.com include Tomorrow Ventures, Chris Burch via Burch Creative Capital, Silverstein Properties President Tal Kerret, DLA Piper Venture Fund and Wilson Sonsini Investment Company.

Founded in 2010, Events.com provides a suite of cloud-based applications designed to encourage social interaction and remove the barriers of putting on and attending memorable events.

The company partners with organizers to improve the event management process, enabling them to connect with attendees. It also give them a dashboard that features tools for managing, marketing and monetizing their events. That includes analytics, reporting with actionable insights, integrated marketing and outreach tools, as well as enhanced payment options.

On the other side, event goers with a platform that allows them to discover, explore, interact, and share their experiences with each other. The idea is to unite both event organizers and event participants in a single place.

The San Diego-based Events.com has grown its staff to over 75 people over the last year, and it says that it will use this new funding in order to continue to deploy resources to accelerate product growth and innovation.

In addition, the company will also use the funding to invest in additional sales and marketing resources, and continue evaluating strategic acquisition opportunities.

Speaking of acquisitions, Events.com also announced that it has acquired online registration provider EventsOnline. The company helps create Web-based solutions that promote usability and easy navigation.

EventsOnline serves the endurance market and has processed over $150 million in registrations and tickets since its inception.

“The acquisition of EventsOnline complements our strategy to expand our client base in the endurance space,” Greg Spillane, Chief Operating Officer of Events.com, said in a statement. “We remain committed to becoming the global leader in the industry and this acquisition helps us to achieve that goal.”

It is unclear at this time what the future looks like for EventsOnline, whether it will remain independently operated or if it will be shutting down.

VatorNews has reached out to both Events.com and EventsOnline to find out more about the acquistion. We will update this story if we learn more.
