Now colleagues can see who's in, who's out, and who's travel plans overlap

TripIt, the travel organization service that was acquired by Concur in January for $120 million, on Tuesday announced its latest feature: the Company Calendar.  As one might expect, TripIt’s Company Calendar is a calendar that displays employees’ business trip itineraries so that others in the office can see who’s in the office and who’s out.

"A company travel calendar is one of the most requested features we've received from our business users," said Scott Hintz, co-founder and VP of Business Development for TripIt, in a statement. "With this launch, we're bringing the familiar and super-useful in/out board into the 21st century.  Now employees have one place where they can quickly view colleagues' travel schedules, eliminating the need to cut and paste travel plans elsewhere."

The calendar offers the obvious bonus of allowing employees in the office see when their colleagues will be gone and when they’ll be back.  With a month-at-a-glance viewing option, employees can schedule meetings, conferences, projects, and more around those employees’ business trips.

But the calendar offers the added benefit of allowing fellow traveling employees to see where there might be overlap, which could present an opportunity for ride-sharing or coordination of client meetings and activities.  While dates and locations are displayed on the calendar, more sensitive itinerary details remain private.

The calendar is the latest business-friendly feature to emerge from the company after being acquired by Concur, a travel management service for businesses.  The calendar is available under the “Business” tab and can be accessed by any employee whose company uses TripIt for Business, which starts at $29 a month, or any member of TripIt Groups, the free service for businesses who want to organize their travel dates with TripIt.  More than 25,000 companies use TripIt Groups.

TripIt is a one-stop travel organization service that allows users to keep track of their travel plans by forwarding their itineraries and confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com.  TripIt then integrates all of those plans into a single itinerary that can be accessed from any Internet-connected device.
