Viral analytics platform for social network application developers gets a new boost of funds

KontagentKontagent, a viral analytics platform for social network application developers, has raised over $4 million in a funding round by Altos Ventures and Maverick Capital, with participation from Larry Braitman, co-founder of FlyCast and Adify. Anthony Lee from Altos Ventures and Eric Kim from Maverick Capital will be joining the Kontagent board of directors.

Since its founding in 2007, Kontagent has raised a total of $6 million.

Kontagent offers two tiers of analytics features that work directly with the Facebook API. Soon, the analytics solution will also support OpenSocial and the MySpace platform.

The base tier provides tracking of channels including invites, notifications, and feeds with technology specially designed to predict and observe viral behavior. This tier also includes filtering so that clients can compare and contrast the behaviors of different demographics and study their engagement. Finally, the base tier includes revenue tracking.

The premium tier includes all the aforementioned features, in addition to tools for closely monitoring traffic sources, user retention metrics, and benchmarking.

The San Francisco-based company says it tracks 60 million users monthly across hundreds of Facebook connected games and services.

Kontagent will use the new funding to not only improve upon its technology, but also to expand its sales and marketing groups. The company is actively hiring for its engineering, sales and marketing teams in San Francisco and Toronto.
