Maker of TapTap Revenge expands iPhone titles, plans integration

Mobile application maker Tapulous has added a free photo capture and sharing program called Photo Collage to its list of iPhone titles as part of plans to create an integrated application suite.

The integration will allow players of TapTap Revenge, the most-popular iPhone game, to share photos with Photo Collage, for example, while users of the photo app can communicate using Twinkle.

"Over time, they'll be integrated. Our goal is to create an ecosystem," Tapulous COO Andrew Lacy told us just before Photo Collage was set to launch in the App Store.

The original version of PhotoCollage was hacked together in a couple of days and made available as a jailbreak before the App Store opened. Half a million users then downloaded it.

"We were doing a beta test of the app and we were amazed by the community it created," Lacy said.

Some users began taking pictures of themselves while displaying their email address and using the app as a dating program.

Another user began urging others to ask for a comments feature -- something that Tapulous left out of this version to nudge people toward Twinkle but may consider adding if enough Photo Collage users ask for it.

Tap Tap Revenge , the musical game which now has custom versions featuring bands like Nine Inch Nails, is nearing 3 million downloads, Lacy told us.

The company in August saw some turmoil when it ousted co-founder and chief software architect Mike Lee.
