  • Sunrise, which allows for diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) from home through the use of artificial intelligence-powered technology, announced a partnership with with Signifier Medical Technologies, a medtech company focused on the development and commercialisation of solutions for patients with snoring and sleep-disordered breathing conditions. This collaboration will involve combining Sunrise's AI solution with eXciteOSA, a device that delivers targeted Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) to help people breathe better, even when they are awake, as well as Signifier Medical’s patient management portal, allowing healthcare providers to gather data on their patients, and provide them with tools so they can understand each patient's unique needs.
  • Lifesum, a a nutrition platform that wants to democratize healthy eating by empowering people with tools to understand their personal nutritional needs, added a sleep tracking feature to its platform  via a partnership with ŌURA, the company behind the Oura Ring, a device that gives users personalized health data, insights, and daily guidance. Partnering with ŌURA enables Lifesum users to track sleep across data points including duration and quality, and receive personalized sleep insights and actionable feedback to improve their eating habits and reach their health goals, Falk explained. The feature will also builds on Lifesum's integration of Health Connect by Android, which allows health and fitness apps to easily manage shared data in one place. With Health Connect for Android, Lifesum users will be able to access their sleep data from ŌURA and get actionable insights related to how they eat and sleep.
  • Google announced that it is expanding the beta version of its Health Connect app, an Android platform that allows for data sharing between health and fitness apps to Japan. It selected six launch partners in the country, including Ubie, developer of an AI-based symptom tracking platform that help guide the patient to the correct treatment option, as well as an AI-powered patient intake product that allows physicians to know what the problem is they're treating before they ever see the patient. By linking Health Connect (Beta) and their Ubie AI Symptom Checker, users can gain access to health-related data from other apps that can improve the accuracy of their symptom-related questionnaires.
  • HealthJoy, a benefits navigation platform that amplifies employer benefit strategies to contain healthcare costs and helps members lead healthier lives, announced an expanded partnership with Teladoc Health, a provider of whole-person virtual care, to introduce virtual primary care. HealthJoy Virtual Primary Care, powered by Teladoc Health, provides a fully integrated primary care experience that supports members throughout their entire healthcare journey. The solution will further enhance HealthJoy's comprehensive suite of virtual care offerings that already includes adult and adolescent mental health, chronic care management, dermatology, employee assistance program services, musculoskeletal therapy, nutrition, tobacco cessation, and urgent care.   • CVS Health announced it is enhancing Project Health, the company's free, community-based health screening program by adding mental health screenings to its services and entering two new areas: Greensboro, NC and Petersburg, VA. Project Health will also add nearly 100 organizations this year to host its mobile units in additional under-resourced communities. CVS Health plans to host nearly 2,000 Project Health screening events across the U.S. in 2023. The company hosts these events at CVS Pharmacy locations and community organizations, offering free biometric screenings including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose level and body mass index to detect early risks of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. The screenings will now also offer PHQ-2 assessments, screenings to help identify people who require additional evaluation for depression. Following these screenings, participants have the opportunity to meet with a nurse practitioner who can provide referrals for treatment and advice on follow-up care.

  • Advisers for the US Food and Drug Administration voted unanimously in support of making the birth-control pill Opill available over-the-counter, saying the benefits outweigh the risks. Two FDA advisory panels agreed that people would use Opill safely and effectively and said groups such as adolescents and those with limited literacy would be able to take the pill at the same time every day without help from a health care worker. The advisers were asked to vote on whether people were likely to use the tablet properly so that the benefits would exceed the risks. Seventeen voted yes. Zero voted no or abstained.

  • Babylon Health, a digital primary care provider, announced plans to be taken private as it continues to be saddled with mounting losses. The company entered into a funding agreement with AlbaCore Capital LLP that will provide up to $34.5 million in interim funding to provide liquidity to support Babylon’s ongoing operations. As part of a longer-term plan, which includes restructuring the company's debt, the agreement will support Babylon's plans to be taken private.

  • Oscar Health will exit the Covered California marketplace at the end of this year after failing to meet performance metrics in the state, executives announced during its first-quarter earnings call Tuesday. The insurer plans to exit the state — where it said it had expected to have 35,000 members at the end of this year— after consistently recording medical loss ratios over 100%, executives said. Newly appointed CEO Mark Bertolini said on the call that Oscar would “pause” implementation in California with the intention of reentering the state in the future after reshaping its product offerings and strategy.
