How the Legacy of Westward Expansion Continues to Inspire Small Business Owners
Read more...Passion is something that is easy to find if a person walks onto a college campus. There are often a lot of young inspired individuals who are ready to change the world. However, once a person leaves college and faces reality, they are often forced to give up their passion due to the monotony of working.
Sometimes, after working for some time or finding a field a person enjoys, they are able to recover some of the passion they had lost. In fact, it might be fair to say that a professional, passionate about their work has a higher fidelity, passion than a college student who is burning with passion for change.
There are very good places for passion, and many companies hire recent graduates in order to keep their workplace feeling alive and fresh. It often brings in new ideas and interesting perspectives, and can be quite healthy for a company.
Passion for one's line of work can be a dangerous thing. Sometimes people become workaholics and have difficulty going home and leaving their work behind them. At other times, people are extremely easy to offend when they are passionate about their work, and because of their close-mindedness they are unable to continue learning in their field. For similar reasons, passionate people are sometimes disliked, even by their peers.
Lewis Barbe is a good example of the perfect amount of passion. He is a safety engineer who has worked in various safety-related capacities, and is considered one of the greatest accident investigation experts, especially when it comes to railroad litigation.
Lewis Barbe is an engineer and engineering consultant currently living and working out of Minnesota.
