Funding roundup - week ending 12/5/14

Seed stage

Real-time real estate platform Nestio raised a $1.6 million funding round led by Freestyle Capital with participation from RiverPark Ventures, Joanne Wilson, David Cohen, Mike Lazerow, Jerry Colonna, and Scout Ventures.

Lesson.ly, a provider of onboarding and training tools, raised a $1.1 million round led by Allos Ventures, with several angels participating. 

LIVEhouse.in, a Taiwanese real-time video platform, raised $350,000 in seed funding from Cherubic Ventures. 

Marvel, a startup for turning sketches into app “prototypes,” raised a £525,000 seed round from Connect Ventures and angel investors, including Roberto Bonanzinga, Andy McLoughlin, Richard Fearn, and Jeremy Yap.

Taiwanese mobile app developer QLL raised $450,000 in a funding round led by B Dash Ventures, with participation from Incubate Fund, Pinehurst Advisors, Viling and Coent Venture Partners.

Prenetics, a DNA biotechnology company, raised a $2.65 million seed funding round led by new CEO Danny Yeung.

Anagog, a crowd-sourced real-time parking app, raised a funding round from angel investors and entrepreneurs including Yos Shiran, Dan Vilensky and Avi Shechter.

NexDefense, a provider of cybersecurity for automation and control systems, raised a $2.4 million funding round led by Mosley Ventures and Buckhead Investment Partners, along with "several prominent U.S. and international investors."

Promoter.io, a customer loyalty analytics platform, raised over $1 million in funding from Lew Moorman, Pat Condon and Pat Matthews.

 

Early stage

4th Office, a cloud workspace combining communication, task and document management tools, raised over £3 million led by RSG Capital and Ben White with participation from Notion Capital.

Eternal Sun, a  solar simulation technology company, raised a €2 Million ($2.5 Million) Series A financing from Vermec N.V.

Online games marketing platform ad2games raised a $9 million Series A round from 3TS Capital Partners, HitFox Group and ad2games’ management team.

Peer-to-peer lender MarketInvoice raised £5 million in funding from Northzone and Paul Forster.

Weaveworks, which helps companies build and migrate applications to run on any container technology, raised $5 million in Series A financing led by Accel Partners.  

The Grid, a website builder that uses artificial intelligence, raised $4.6 million in a Series A round led by AME Cloud Ventures, with John Pleasants, Greg Badros and Nick Roach also participating/

MEDIGO, a site for to comparing and coordinating medical procedures, raised $6.2 million  round of funding lead by Accel.

Capitaine Train, a French website for buying train tickets online, raised $6.3 million (€5.5 million) led by Alven Capital, with Index Ventures, CM-CIC Capital Privé, TheFamily, Xavier Niel and Pierre Bonelli also participating. 

Veniam, a company that is building the Internet of Moving Things, raised a $4.9 million Series A funding led by True Ventures, with participation from Union Square Ventures, Cane Investments and private investors.

WedPics, a platform for sharing wedding photos, raised $4.25 million from OCA Ventures, Venture51, IDEA Fund Partners,Great Oaks, and angels including Adam Draper, Semil Shah, Jocelyn Goldfein, and others. 

UK-based peer-to-peer lending platform Landbay raised $2.35 million in funding from Omni Partners.

Tute Genomics, a solutions for genome analysis, raised $2.3 million in Series A1 funding led by Eurovestech. Peak Ventures and angel investors also participated.

Altaeros Energies, a developer of wind turbine technology, raised $7 million in a funding round from SoftBank. 

MetaMind, an artificial intelligence platform, launched with $8 million from Khosla Ventures and Marc Benioff. 

 

Late stage

Live video messaging company Glide raised a $20 million Series B financing round led by Marker LLC, with participation from Two Sigma Ventures, Menlo Ventures and other existing investors.

Early-growth venture capital firm Formation 8 closed its second fund with a total of $500 million.

Space Ape Games, a mobile games developer, raised $7 million in a round led by Northzone, with Accel Partners, Initial Capital and Connect Ventures also participating. 

Payments startup Stripe raised $70 million from Thrive Capital, Sequoia, General Catalyst, Founders Fund, and Khosla Ventures.

Wearable device maker and fitness platform provider Misfit raised $40 million in a round led by GGV Capital, along with Xiaomi, JD.com, Shunwei Horizons Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Founders Fund and Northwest Venture Partners.

Kaminario, an all-flash array storage provider for midrange enterprises, raised $53 million round from Sequoia Capital, Pitango, Globespan, Tenaya and Mitsui, Silicon Valley Bank and Lazarus Hedge Fund, as well as a large public company.

Revel Systems, a provider of iPad point-of-sale systems for retail businesses, secured a $1.2 million grant from Invest Northern Ireland.

Helpling, an online platform for on-demand home services, raised $17 million in Series A funding from Mangrove Capital Partners, Phenomen Ventures, Point Nine Capital, Lukasz Gadowski and others. 

E-hailing and ridesharing app Uber raised a $1.2 billion in a funding round from undisclosed investors. 

Video ad startup Viewbix raised $3 million in funding from 2M Companies, along with Canaan Partners and Longfellow Venture Partners.

Human resources platform Maxwell Health raised $26.4 million in a round led by Adams Street Partners. Cambia HealthSolutions and Schooner Capital, along with Brothers Brook, Vaizra Investments, Tribeca VenturePartners, Catalyst Health Ventures, Serious Change, and Lerer Hippeau Ventures.

Early-stage venture capital firm Xfund closed its second fund, with $100 million in committed capital. New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Breyer Capital, and AccelPartners and a diversified group of long-term institutional limited partners anchored the fund.

ThreatStream, a cloud-based cybersecurity platform, raised $22 million in Series B funding led by General Catalyst Partners, along with Institutional Venture Partners, Google Ventures and Paladin Capital Group.

GrabTaxi, an on demand taxi service based in Asia, raised a $250 million funding round from SoftBank. 

CloudOne, which brings enterprise applications to the cloud, raised $4.5 million in a Series D round led by Plymouth Ventures, with participation from HKS Capital Advisors and Elevate Ventures.

Blab, a social intelligence platform that predicts online trending conversations, raised $8.8 million in a round led by Blue Focus Communications Group Co. and Shoreline Venture Management, with participation from Operative Capital.

21Vianet, a carrier-neutral Internet data center services provider in China, raised $296  million from affiliates of Kingsoft Corporation Limited, Xiaomi Corporation and Temasek.
