Top 4 Reasons I can live without Microsoft Office
Infoworld today asked the question "Can you live without Microsoft Office?",
of course many business execs and corporations would say no but for the
smart people who know who to utilize the Web 2.0 trends with cloud
computing the answer is 100% yes.
My main document editing tool on my main PC is the infamous Google Documents, the great things about it are:
- I can access the data anywhere in the world
- I am able to use a web browser instead of my desktop to perform document editing
- I can upload ANY file type to Google Docs from my desktop and then edit them on the client
And probably the best thing about Google Docs
OFFLINE EDITING!So I thought in recognition of
Infoworld's article I would give you the top ten reasons I can live without Microsoft Office:
- Different
file types that Office saves documents into, especially with Office
2007 which saves documents by default as .docx. It annoys the heck
outta me!
- Interfaces that have made things less clearer
then in Office 2003, the ribbon bar in Office 2007 isn't very intuitive
and the simplification of tasks isn't really helping many of us out
there
- Prices that are so ridiculously expensive for even the basic version I may as well buy a gold encrusted copy of the iPhone.

Not a personal one for me, but one that I have noted and also was
addressed very well in the Infoworld article is the cost of training
employees within business to use Microsoft Office 2007
NB-
I originally headed this article "Top 10 reasons I can live without
Microsoft Office" turns out I can only think of 4, which is just key as
displaying how reliant I am on it still even though I use Google Docs!
But as Microsoft begins to make the
big online push with enterprise software such as Exchange and Sharepoint will we see any strength in their belief that they will become a dominant force in cloud computing!
