Read more...Ever dream of a totally paperless existence? The innovative (though unfortunately named) Doo app wants to give you just that, by providing a safe, digital space for all of your important documents. Yes, even the paper ones. Doo announced Thursday an A series $6.8 million funding, from DuMont Venture and Angel investors, Dr. Hermann Simon and Lars Hinrichs.
So what's Doo all about? Basically, it wants to provide a service for document sharing, storage and processing for consumers and small businesses, accessible from any digital device. If this sounds similar to Salesforce, the makers of Doo would argue that they have higher aims.
Rather than merely providing a service for document retrieval, Doo wants to expedite relevant documents into important workflow functions, like bank transactions or payment of public utilities, all with integration with already established document storage companies, like Dropbox.
Doo's services will be free, though users with heavy document storage will be charged a monthly subscription at a "very low price."
Doo's website says that it plans to have applications for all the major computing, Web, and mobile platforms, though currently they only have an OS X Lion app, and are allowing a limited number of "brave Beta testers," (their words), to get on board.
They also mention that the system currently "will not be able to replace your current tool for managing digital documents," so any "brave" souls out there willing to take chance with important documents on a system that clearly seems to still have a few bugs might want to take that to heart. (As for us, we think we'll go ahead and let Doo work out the kinks first.)
As for those with Windows or Linux PC systems, Doo says they "need a little more time."
