Read more...It appears DataViz has a new home. The maker of a Documents To Go application for the Blackberry, was bought by Research In Motion (RIM) for $50 million, according to Crackberry. Neither company has made an official announcement.
Menlo Ventures looks to raise up to $800 million. No reason for the fundraising was stated, but it is likely they wish to expand their investments. The company is a primary investor in 3Par, a fairly well known cloud storage provider, who recently accepted a $2.4 billion buy out from HP.
Craigslis takes down adult listings. Craigslist, the well known classifieds site, has taken down its adult listings, just days after the founder was ambushed by CNN's own Amber Lyon. The company also has had some judicial issues with this section of the listings.
According to Venture capital database VentureDeal over $2.1 billion in capital was raised in the second quarter. The deal represents data from over 366 companies and a total increase in funding of 17%.
AOL and Ellen team up. An official announcement, made this morning, announced a deal in which, according to the release," AOL and The Ellen DeGeneres Show website will share promotion, traffic and content." The Ellen DeGeneres Show currently ranks second in syndicated talk shows in AOL's coveted demographic of Women ages 25-54.
Backupify, a cloud backup service, which makes it claim to fame by backing up other cloud services, has raised $4.5 milion from a variety of sources including:Avalon Ventures, General Catalyst, Lowercase Capital and First Round Capital.
GSMA, best known for the Mobile World Congress have announced that the event will include both a Macworld Mobile event and the Brand App Challenge in 2011. "We're excited to bring Macworld Mobile to Mobile World Congress," said Mary Dolaher, chief executive officer of IDG World Expo in the official release. "Macworld is known around the world for helping to drive and stimulate the Apple products community with educational programmes and business development activities. At Mobile World Congress, we will help international iOS developers to strengthen their skills, as well as facilitate connections with other developers and the worldwide audience of mobile decision makers who attend."
Yahoo's rumored to be outsourcing engineers to Bangalore. The engineers, mostly within the YOS group and YDN (Yahoo Developer Network) are rumored to be moving a significant portion of their staff. While no official announcement has been made yet, two undisclosed senior developers were already let go.
FireID has raised roughly $6.4 million from 4Di Capital. FireID is a provider of security applications for mobile authentication. No word yet on what this funding will be used for.
