Serving Sprint and Virgin Mobile its cloud-based mobile platform, ItsOn to expand internationally

ItsOn, a cloud-based mobile platform provider, announced today that it has raised a $12.5 million Series D funding round led by Delta Partners Capital Limited with participation from Verizon Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Tenaya Capital and other existing investors.

Including today’s new round, the company has raised over $52 million in total from the above investors as well as Cisco, Vodafone Ventures, SV Angel, and an investor group led by Silver Lake Partners co-founder Jim Davidson.

Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Redwood City, Calif., ItsOn offers a cloud-based digital service stack for mobile carriers. This includes various cloud services essential to mobile service providers, such as:

  • Mobile commerce: Automated, real-time notifications allow customers to opt in to offers for data access that go beyond their prepaid mobile plans or services.
  • Activation: Allows users to activate their devices directly through the device itself.
  • Billing: Customers can pay for their mobile services using ItsOn's "mobile wallet," which offers payment options and account information directly from the device.
  • Policy: Customers receive real-time notifications from carriers when their data access goes beyond prepaid services.

The company’s sole customers are big ones—Sprint and Virgin Mobile—though it's planning to use the new funding to expand. Ericsson, Huawei and Amdocs count among its current competitors.

"[ItsOn's mobile commerce platform] enables operators to deliver enhanced digital experiences and offers tocustomers and engage them using contextual marketing for new products, services and incentives," said Kristoff Puelinckx, co-founder and partner at Delta Partners, in a prepared statement. "With itsproven technology for mobile operators, ItsOn is poised for rapid growth.”

Dr. Greg Raleigh, the company's founder, CEO, and chairman, has been a major force in the field of telecommunications for several decades. And David Johnson, the company's COO and CFO, has held executive positions at several big tech companies, including Qualcomm and Cisco Systems.

Today, ItsOn primarily operates its cloud service from North American data centers. The company will be using its new funding to establish new international data centers for its clients’ market launches in South America, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
