Updated Safety Center provides general tips for educators, law enforcers, parents, and teens

Facebook unveiled on Tuesday a revamped Safety Center, the official channel for educators, law enforcers, parents, and teens to find questions, answers, and tips about staying protected on the most popular social network on the Web.

The content available has quadrupled, according to Facebook, and is now presented in an elegant, easy-to-navigate format. The company addresses everything from responding to cyberbullying or suicidal posts to reporting sex offenders or terrorists and everything in between.

Facebook first established a Safety Advisory Board in December with Childnet International, Common Sense Media, Connect Safely, the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI), and WiredSafety as members, whose expertise and guidance have informed the advice made available through the new Safety Center.

As an example, here's Facebook answer to the question, "What if my current or ex-boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse is controlling or monitoring what I do on Facebook?"

"If your current or ex-boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse is controlling or monitoring your activity on Facebook, this could be a sign of relationship abuse. If you think this might be happening to you, please call the National Domestic Violence hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE to find out about resources in your community and get additional safety information."

It's nice to see Facebook addressing one of its most serious and real issues.
