Dr Marie Claire Bourque is an award-winning psychiatrist, speaker and educator with a specialized focus in sports, mental fitness and peak performance. She has a passion for all things wellness and challenges herself and the people around her to live with purpose. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, and the outgoing President of the Foothills Medical Staff Association.
A Master's level kinesiologist and former elite athlete, she regularly combines her knowledge of exercise physiology with emotional and mental health and practices therapeutic modalities that involve the Mind-Body diathesis. In addition to the traditional psychiatric practice, she teaches and prescribes mindfulness, meditation, exercise, boundaries and resiliency factors. She practices several psychotherapeutic modalities including Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Psychodynamic and Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy.
She has won national and international awards for leadership in medicine and mental health, and has been recognized for her outstanding teaching.
An active advocate, she sits on several national boards and committees in the field of mental health, and presents at a variety of conferences and retreats.
