What's most frustrating and rewarding about entrepreneurship/innovation?

Rewarding: Delivering technology solutions that improve people’s lives. Also, working with teams that are aligned toward solving real-world problems.

Frustrating: When technologies and solutions don’t find product-market fit, or when they are too ahead of their time to gain enough traction in the marketplace.

What's the No. 1 mistake entrepreneurs/innovators make?

Giving up too soon.

What are the top three lessons you've learned as an entrepreneur?

1) Never give up
2) It's all about the Team
3) Never let money get in the way of progress

Full bio

I am an engineer by training and an entrepreneur by nature, experienced at bring innovative solutions to market. Currently I'm the co-founder and COO of Lab Sensor Solutions, a company improving healthcare through the use of sensor networks that can monitor and track everything from a patient’s lab samples to other healthcare assets, like infusion pumps. I have developed and launched products leveraging technologies such as Bluetooth, USB, RFID and Semiconductor DNA sequencing.

Prior to co-founding Lab Sensor Solutions, I was with Ion Torrent, a 3rd generation DNA sequencing company, bought by Life Technologies for $750 Million. Ion Torrent was the first company to productize semiconductor sequencing technology able to sequence the entire human genome for under $1,000.

Before that I was a founder and VP of R&D for Tagent, an innovative RFID company, creating breakthrough technology that integrated antennas onto silicon in order to achieve a more compact form factor. Prior to Tagent, I was at Cypress Semiconductor where, as the technical project manager for Wireless USB, we created a new wireless standard that made wireless technology as easy connecting something via USB.

I have an MBA in Technology Management from UOP and a BS in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University. I’m also the inventor or co-inventor on over 10 patents and I’ve published two books: “Frustration Free Technical Management” and “#ENDURANCE tweet — A Little Nudge to Keep You Going.”
