If you're an entrepreneur or corporate innovator, why?

I'm bursting with ideas!

What's most frustrating and rewarding about entrepreneurship/innovation?

Changing the world takes time. It's important to have the right idea with the right team at the right time. Too early is the same as being wrong.

What's the No. 1 mistake entrepreneurs/innovators make?

Protecting an idea instead of sharing it, iterating and making it better.

What are the top three lessons you've learned as an entrepreneur?

Your values are your most enduring competitive advantage.
Focus wins.
No success or failure is permanent.

Full bio

I am a Founder and General Partner of Emergence Capital Partners. I have over 20 years of venture capital experience and broad experience funding startups and helping enterpreneurs achieve their goals. Previously, I worked developing new products for technology companies.

I was named to the Forbes' Midas List of the top venture capital investors in 2006 and 2007. I am an experienced board member who has served on dozens of public and private boards. I currently serve on the boards of YouSendIt, bill.com, Intacct, InsideView, and Janrain. Some of my prior investments include BigFix (sold to IBM), HireRight (HIRE), WebTV (sold to Microsoft), nQuire Software (sold to Siebel Systems), Lexar Media (LEXR), Microchip Technologies (MCHP), NetPerceptions (NETP) and many others.

I have a MS and BS in mechanical engineering from M.I.T. and an MBA from Stanford. I am happily married with two children. I love to travel, especially to places with ancient stone structures. In my spare time, I try to keep in shape with cycling and cross country skiing.
