What's most frustrating and rewarding about entrepreneurship/innovation?

Greatest frustration are the constraints of time & capital. Greatest reward is finding smart answers despite the constraints of time & capital.

What's the No. 1 mistake entrepreneurs/innovators make?

Fear of being wrong. Time and capital burn when leaders fail to make a decision out of fear they may make the wrong decision. Be decisive & if your decision is wrong learn from it and don't make the same mistake twice.

What are the top three lessons you've learned as an entrepreneur?

Control what you can control; don't fear competitors; startups operate as an assembly loop - not an assembly line - understand how your role fits in the loop because everything the organization does will come back around.

Alex Rhodeen is the Chief Operating Officer at Kanga, an Atlanta based technology company focused on local delivery.  Currently Kanga’s platform operates in North America, Southeast Asia and South Africa working with partners ranging from individuals performing local delivery to SMBs and enterprise companies including Delta, Georgia Pacific & PLDT.

Mr. Rhodeen’s executive career includes more than 10 years building start-ups and reorganized companies. As the first employee at Mascotopia, a manufacturer of child-development products, he built a national account base and grew revenues from $0 to $880K in 20 months which led to its acquisition by Lexington, KY-based Hunter Manufacturing.

Hired as the Director of Sales & Marketing for home furnishings retailer Lovesac, following its exit from bankruptcy, Mr. Rhodeen built the retailer from 12 company-owned stores in 2008 to 56 in 2013 with year-over-year revenue growth of 45% annually during the same period.  Essential to the company’s rapid growth was a transformation of customer interactions including a personalization of the e-commerce experience.  In 2013 Lovesac was named the fastest-growing home furnishings retailer in the United States by Furniture Today.

Joining Kanga in January 2014 Mr. Rhodeen manages strategic partnerships, operations and expansion while ensuring Kanga quickly applies learnings to strengthen the company.
