About The Editor

Acknowledged by his peers as a leader in echocardiography, Timothy Thigpen has worked with clinicians, researchers and ultrasound manufacturers for over 20 years, helping them to improve their performance in markets around the world. Beginning in 1982 with some of the first stress echo exams, through the next decade with intra-operative transesophageal, to today’s advances in 3D echocardiography, Tim has been at the forefront of emerging markets. His breadth of experience in echocardiography affords him a unique perspective on the opportunities and consequences of new ultrasound technologies.

After graduating from Seattle University's School of Science and Engineering with a B.S. in Diagnostic Ultrasound, Tim earned an MBA from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. He has served on the boards of The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography and The American Society of Echocardiography. He has co-authored over a dozen original manuscripts on various aspects of echocardiography. After holding several clinical and research positions, Tim gained his commercial ultrasound experience with Acuson in 1988, where he held management positions in clinical applications, product development and strategic marketing.

Tim is also President of Insonoart, Inc, a web publishing firm active at the intersection of the medical arts, science & the health care consumer.
