Oscar Meyer debuts Sizzl, a dating app where people can match up on what kind of bacon they like

The world of online dating seems to have a space that is subdivided into groups. There's one for Jewish people, one for Christian people, one for Muslims, one for black people, one for Latinos, even one forfarmers. Then you have apps like Tinder and Grindr that are used simply for hooking up, rather than the long term relationship apps like OkCupid, eHarmony and Zoosk. There are a no shortage of options for you to find your exact match.

What if you are a food connoisseur? Or, to be more specific, a bacon lover? What do you do then?

Oscar Meyer has the answer. They have created a new dating app, one for people who love bacon. Because what better thing to bond over than your love of pork products. I'm totally serious about that, by the way.

The new app, called Sizzl, was announced  on Wednesday and it rates users on how they prefer their bacon, including if they like it thick cut and flexible, or center cut and cooked to a crisp. Users can upload photos, presumably with their bacon, and, like other dating apps, start checking out profiles of local their fellow bacon lovers, who they can then message and meet up.

It also has an interesting way of showing someone you want to meet up: you hold down what it calls the "Sizzl-meter" on a user’s profile in order to indicates the level of interest. The longer a user holds, the more Sizzl they are saying they feel for them.

"In love, as it is in bacon, it's important to be discerning when selecting your perfect match and to never settle for less than the best," Eric Dahmer, marketing director at Oscar Mayer, said in a statement. "We passionately cure our bacon for 12 hours, and lovingly smoke-house it for another 12, making it the true bacon for bacon lovers. With the launch of Sizzl, we're thrilled to give our true bacon lovers the chance to find each other and potentially meet their soulmates, in life and in bacon."

While this sounds like a joke, and most people will probably treat is this way, in an FAQ section Oscar Meyer insists that "it’s real and it’s incredible." They should have said "spectacular." Have these people never seen Seinfeld?

More than any other dating app, I can see the universal appeal of this one. I mean, who doesn't love bacon? Do you know anyone who would turn down bacon if it was offered to them?

I mean, I guess there are some people like that, and they might want to troll the bacon lovers out there. So users have the option to report those people by tapping the three dots on their profile and reporting them by selecting “Doesn’t love bacon."

Funny enough, this is not even the first bacon related app that Oscar Meyer has released.

Last year it debuted an app called Wake Up and Smell the Bacon, which came with a detachable device to plug into the headphone jack of an iPhone and which would emit the scent of bacon in the morning. It had also previously created an e-commerce site to help consumers give the gift of bacon for Father’s Day in its Say It with Bacon campaign in 2013.

Right now the Sizzl app is only available on iPhone, but "you can Sizzl the bacon for bacon lovers on any skillet," says Oscar Meyer.
