No. 1 Mistake: Hubris

Today's Entrepreneur is Bart Myers, Founder and CEO of Countable. Countable is a platform where users can learn about issues, influence their representatives in government, and rally their community and friends around those issues. Organizations and politicians can use Countable to build support for their positions, expand their membership and drive donations.

Myers
is a graduate in BA, Liberal Arts at Evergreen in 1997.

Countable (currently in the top 8 finalists) is competing in Vator Splash Oakland startup competition.

Countable self-categories itself in these areas: Business to Business (B2B)CommunicationsConsumer Internet (B2C), and News

The top 8 finalist will compete and present live on stage in front of several hundred tech influencers (CEOs, media and investors).

Here's a little about Myers:

I am a(n): Entrepreneur

Companies I've founded or co-founded:
SideReel, a division of Rovi, Countable, All Media Network

Companies I work or worked for:
IBM, Guba.com, Rovi

If you are an entrepreneur, why?
I want to change the world.

My favorite startups:
Github, Change.org, Kiva, Airbnb

What's the No. 1 mistake entrepreneurs make?
Hubris.

What are the top three lessons you've learned as an entrepreneur?
  1. Hard work is the critical ingredient to success
  2. Be respectful and build your network - it's key to opening doors that you would otherwise not be able to open.
  3. Luck, it's a thing. Don't bet on it, but hope like crazy for it.
Full bio

My current project is Countable, an iPhone app, Android app and website where users can learn about issues, influence their representatives in government, and rally their community and friends around those issues.

I can use Countable to tell my Senators how to vote on Keystone, encourage my friends to do the same, get credit for their activism, and get updates on how my reps actually vote - all in moments, on my way to work in the morning.

Organizations and politicians can use Countable to build support for their positions, expand their membership and drive donations. Revenue will come from giving organizations and companies a new way to reach and influence Countable’s coveted rich demographic of influencers.

We’ve had outstanding early adoption, are growing rapidly and are the first to crack the code on the civic social graph - a massive market exceeding $80bn.

Prior to Countable, I founded SideReel.com which was acquired by Rovi in 2011, and which I helped to re-acquire under All Media Network in 2013. Before SideReel, I worked for IBM Global Services.

I am an active angel investor and advisor.
