SK Telecom Americas led the round while existing investors Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Dace Ventures also participated. Thursday's announcement brings the company's total funding to $17.5 million.
The mapping technology EveryScape offers functions very similar to Google's Street View, which we've all become familiar with. The startup said since its launch in 2002, it has built out 3D landscapes for more than 20 cities in four countries.
But EveryScape's plan isn't to compete with Google's Street View technology. Beyond simply offering a 3D map for users across the Web to interact with, the company also takes its products indoors, in real shops, bars, cafes, or whoever else wants to. The company sells these 3D interior panoramas and has nearly 3,000 salespeople actively out and about making business.
"We've proven that our model works in the U.S. and abroad, and see the Asian markets as an important focus for future growth. The investment from SK Telecom Americas is validation of our approach, as well as fuel and guidance as we develop our Asian market strategy. We look forward to working together to extend The Real World Online across the Pacific," said Jim Schoonmaker, EveryScape's CEO.
I tried it out and it truly is neat. I took a walk around 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco, a spot I've yet to visit and truly got a feel for what it's like inside. I could see this being a great asset for any restaurant or nightlife venue in major cities.
EveryScape believes these interactive assets can drive consumer purchase decisions, increase online conversions and business sales, as well as provide email marketing and advertising.
On top of that, EveryScape offers an API so its customers can integrate the 3D viewer onto their sites.
