New title from Tap Tap Revenge developer already seeing success on Apple iPhone
Riddim Ribbon, the latest release from Tapulous of Tap Tap Revenge fame, has ridden a wave of popularity to the top spot of the 25 highest grossing apps on the App Store.
Having claimed the number one spot, Riddim Ribbon has officially beaten out Rock Band, Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies, Qik Video Camera, and GT Racing: Motor Academy, the other titles, in order, making up the top five highest grossing apps. Riddim Ribbon took the fifth spot on the top paid games, a list still dominated by Doodle Jump, an addicting game developed by Lime Sky.
We first reported on the release of Riddim Ribbon when it
launched earlier this week. Since then, the game has already averaged a 4.5 star rating from almost a thousand reviews.
Riddim Ribbon follows in the same vein as Tapulous' popular Tap Tap Revenge franchise, a sort of Guitar Hero or Rock Band for the iPhone that has made its way onto 25 million devices.
Not easily categorized, the game has been described as a melting pot of rhythm, racing, and action, making for a simultaneously novel and familiar gaming experience. Old Tap Tap Revenge players feel at home finding music welded to the very core of the game's physics and new users may simply be discovering the latest in racing/action games.
Besides just being related to Tap Tap Revenge, the new app's quick success might owe something to a special iTunes promotion (for US customers) in which Riddim Ribbon downloaders receive a free download of a previously unreleased song, "Meet Me Halfway (Jeepney Halfway Remix)."
