Fueled by business growth, Playdom launches two gaming studios and brings aboard Zynga veteran
Playdom, a social gaming company and creator of the number one MySpace application Mobsters, has announced it will be shifting into a ‘studio model,’ and bringing aboard industry veterans from EA and Zynga.
Back in March, we reported that Playdom launched a Facebook version of Mobsters along with several other games, and since then says it has experienced rapid growth. This rapid growth is all the reason for a transition into a studio model.
Dave Rohrl, who occupied senior production and game design roles at Zynga, will oversee a studio focused on new intellectual property. Sean Clark, who comes from Electronic Arts, will oversee a studio focused on role-playing-games (RPGs).
Playdom is a gaming company to keep an eye on. It attracts 5.2 million daily active users of which on average play 11 minutes a session. 5% of those who participate in Playdom’s games spend money on virtual goods.
The social gaming company says it still holds nine of the top 25 games on MySpace and has hired 23 new employees during April and May.
Look out Zynga, Playdom is going to be ramping up its social gaming portfolio.
