Highway 12 Ventures and Village Ventures add more money to help accelerate review site growth

TopTenReviews, a technology review Web site, announced it raised $1.5 million in VC funding from its current investors, Highway 12 Ventures and Village Ventures.

The company previously received $6 million in funding back in 2008.  It used part of that cash in 2009 to acquire Space.com, LiveScience.com and Newsarama.com.  With these acquisitions, it established the TechMediaNetwork.

Founded back in 2003, TopTenReviews covers software, Web services, consumer electronics and entertainment.  The company said it offers millions of reviews in 350 categories with product and pricing comparisons to help its users shop and purchase technology.  Many of the reviews on the site are user generated, as TopTenReviews offers the opportunity for qualified users to write reviews and earn cash: first time writers can earn up to $1,200 for the first year of writing.

The Ogden, Utah-based company is currently seeing around 10 million page views per month, according to stats on its site.

“This past year was a great year for us, and we see fantastic opportunities for growth in the coming 18 months,” said Jerry Ropelato, CEO of TopTenREVIEWS. “The funding will help us accelerate our growth as we pursue the opportunities ahead.”
