Washington state selects Fusion Health as its official EHR vendor

The contract will make it easier for state agencies to evaluate and implement Fusion's technology

While electronic health records (EHRs) have been around since back in the 70s, it has only in the last 15 or so that they've become standard, when President Obama signed The HITECH Act, which was created to motivate the implementation of EHRs and supporting technology. In 2009, 12% of hospitals had adopted EHRS; as of 2021, 78% of office-based physicians and 96% of non-federal acute care hospitals had adopted one.

They've also become big business as the global EHR market size surpassed $27.42 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach $41.87 billion by 2033, led by companies like EPIC, Cerner, and AllScripts. 

Fusion Health is a provider of specialized EHR and pharmacy management solutions for what it calls "complex care movement-restricted environments," such a corrections and psychiatric hospitals. Now the company will be getting a big boost at announced on Monday that it has been selected as an approved EHR vendor by the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services (DES).

This contract will make it easier for agencies interested in its FusionEHR system, including the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Health Care Authority (HCA), Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), Department of Health (DOH), and Department of Corrections (DOC), to evaluate and procure Fusion's healthcare technology solutions.

The Woodbridge, New Jersey-based Fusion provides products that include CIPS, a pharmacy management system designed to optimize inpatient facility pharmacy operations; ProPharm, a software solution designed for university systems to streamline medication management; and Fusion eMAR, an electronic medication administration record.

Fusion had already been working with the Washington DOC's pharmacy management system and electronic medication administration record (eMAR) software.

Currently, Fusion's solutions are being implemented in 37 US states through public and private partnerships, including the Florida Department of Corrections and Ohio Department of Corrections.
