KeyCare expands to Florida through Memorial Healthcare System partnership

Virtual care services provider KeyCare will power MemorialDOCNow, Memorial’s virtual care platform

When health systems look to offer more virtual care services, some problems they find are that their internal providers are overwhelmed, and that their options for partners are limited to third parties who use poorly integrated technologies. As a result, they often can't meet the patient demand.

KeyCare's solution is to allow health systems to augment their care teams and optimize capacity by partnering with a nationwide network of virtual care groups who provide urgent care and behavioral health specialists.

Launched in July of last year, the company is currently providing services to BHSH System’s Spectrum Health West Michigan Division, as well as Grand Rapids-based CoreWellHealth; now it will be adding its first Florida partner, announcing a partnership with Memorial Healthcare System on Wednesday. 

Founded in 1953, the Hollywood, Florida-based Memorial Healthcare System is an academic medical center made up of six hospitals, including Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, along with numerous primary, urgent, and 24/7 care facilities, a health specialty center, and nursing home.

KeyCare provides health systems with virtual care services, allowing them to augment their care teams and optimize capacity by partnering with a nationwide network of virtual care groups.

On the patient side, they can schedule appointments with a variety of Virtualists via their own health system's MyChart portal or call center. The Virtualists then complete the encounter on KeyCare’s Epic platform; the patient's data is made available to the Virtualists, and their virtual care notes are sent back into the health system’s EHR.

Through this partnership, Memorial patients can conduct appointments with Virtualist healthcare providers via MemorialDOCNow, Memorial’s virtual care platform, which will be powered by KeyCare, in Memorial’s MyChart portal. Virtualists have access to each patient’s Memorial data as they provide care and complete encounter details on KeyCare’s Epic platform and seamlessly share results with members of a patient’s Memorial care team.  

Memorial patients can now access the high-quality virtual care solution via Memorial's digital front door, through the health system’s MemorialDOCNow service and MyChart patient portal.

In addition to being its first partner in the Sunshine State, Memorial Healthcare System is also the first to go live with KeyCare’s pediatric urgent care services, though both adult and pediatric patients will have access to MemorialDOCNow.

“In just a few short years, the delivery of care without an in-person visit has gone from barely on-the-radar to revolutionizing healthcare,” said Bill Manzie, Administrative Director of Telehealth at Memorial Healthcare System, said in a statement.

“Our partnership with KeyCare will enable us to provide more accessible, coordinated and comprehensive healthcare services to our customers.”

Last month, KeyCare completed its $27 million Series A round of funding, which included investments from Ziegler and two additional health systems, along with 8VC, LRV Health, Bold Capital, and Spectrum Health Ventures.
