If you're a startup seeking opportunities to get funded, educated or connected, startup competitions are a great resource.

As part of our weekly series, we'll look at top competitions with big cash prizes, as well as competitions that have teed up the most promising startups, to finding popular startup competitions you need to know about.

Description: "The Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge is a worldwide renowned science & technology startup competition designed specifically to address the needs of deep tech entrepreneurs across several different industries and technologies. The Challenge was created in 2013 by deep tech entrepreneur Xavier Duportet and Arnaud De La Tour, at the time both PhD students, who realised that the resources needed to propel emerging technologies were different from those of traditional web and mobile innovations."

EIT Health | European Health Catapult

Description: "EUROPEAN HEALTH CATAPULT LIFTS THE BEST-OF-THE-BEST BUSINESS CONCEPTS FROM MEDTECH, BIOTECH AND DIGITAL HEALTH ACROSS EUROPE"

Prize: The overall prize money awarded by EIT Health will be €210 000. In each category the first place will be awarded with 40.000 €, the second place with 20.000 € and the third prize with 10.000 €.

BIO-Europe

Description: "Startup Slam is a competition offering innovative entrepreneurs a chance to pitch their company at BIO-Europe."

Prize

  • Access to a top-tier mentoring program with industry experts from Johnson & Johnson Innovation 
  • Wider recognition through press releases, media coverage and inclusion of the Slam on social media. There will also be an opportunity to conduct interviews for publication in Labiotech and EBD Partnering Insight

Description: "We've launched the Pitch Summits to meet the needs of both investors and entrepreneurs. Each cycle, life-science startups from a specific sector will apply to take part in the upcoming Summit. (Accredited investors can apply to join at any time.) QB3 will pick 40 companies and an expert panel will winnow the field down to the top 10-15 entries. Entrepreneurs and investors can interact confidentially through a custom-designed platform, and the selected startups will pitch the investors on the day of the Summit."

AstraZeneca logo

Description: "AstraZeneca is hosting its second StartUP Science Competition for life science entrepreneurs in the Cambridge area. The competition aims to highlight the great science and innovation taking place in the local Cambridge ecosystem and to help build the next generation of biotechs. It offers participants the opportunity to raise the profile of their company and to network with high-profile life sciences representatives and senior AstraZeneca executives."

Prize: Three competition finalists will be invited to pitch their businesses to an exclusive group of high-profile life sciences representatives at the AstraZeneca Exchange Cambridge 2019 event on 3 July at Cambridge Judge Business School.

The winner of the AstraZeneca StartUP Science competition – chosen by attendees at the AstraZeneca Exchange Cambridge event – will receive eight hours of tailored one-to-one business mentoring from senior AstraZeneca executives, as well as consideration for entry in the Cambridge Judge Entrepreneurship Centre’s Accelerator - Accelerate Cambridge*. The 3 finalists will also receive entry to the Entrepreneurship Education weekend held at Cambridge Judge Business School in the autumn.
