Dr. Vij was a traditional physician prescribing medications for ailments. But in the last several years, he's embraced lifestyle medicine as the prescription for heretofore conditions typically treated with drugs.
"This has been a more satisfying [way to practice medicine] as I see them [patients] three months later and say, 'You don't need to be on three blood pressure medicines," he said, adding that more scientists and doctors are adopting these practices as they understand the root causes of disease: lack of sleep, unhealthy eating, an unsettled mind, and lack of activity.
Dr. Vij is such a believer he recently wrote a book: Turbo Metabolism and he's the President of American College of Lifestyle Medicine. In this interview, he briefly touches on the importance on sitting still, or meditating and the microbium, which studies have shown to be linked to mood disorders and neurological conditions.
