Signostics secured $35M; LoveCrafts raised $20M; Varentec landed $13M

  • Wellmo, a Helsinki, Finland-based mobile solution to run digital health programs, raised €1 million (approximately $1.8 million) in seed fundingThe backers remained undisclosed. The company, which has raised €2.1 million to date, will use the funds to continue grow operations. Founded in 2012 as a Nokia spin-off by CEO Jaakko Olkkonen, Wellmo offers a cloud-based mobile solution for health and wellbeing services. By deploying Wellmo, health service providers and insurance companies can run health programs.

  • AirGruba Silicon Valley start-up, built a mobile app for air travelers to pre-order and pick up freshly prepared food without waiting in line, today announced it has secured $1.5 million in angel investment funding to continue to allow travelers to take control of their food choices at the airport. Showcasing its momentum since its launch at San Francisco International Airport in July 2015, AirGrub has doubled its orders and continues to increase downloads, users and revenue growth.

  • TruStar, a San Francisco, California- and Arlington, Virginia-based provider of an enterprise platform for anonymous cyber incident sharing and collaboration, raised $2 million in seed fundingThe round was led by Resolute Ventures with participation from other Silicon Valley investors. The company intends to use the funds to accelerate product development and expand the team.

  • Gurgaon-based cashback and coupon platform Cashkaro has raised Rs 25 crore (approximately $3.8 million) in Series A funding from Kalaari Capital. This is the maiden investment by any VC firm in cashback (except coupons, deals) site in India. The company will use the funds towards building the brand, marketing, and international expansion.

  • ZoneTV (formerly ES3), a Santa Monica, CA-based provider of a multi-channel PayTV network, closed a $4.1 million seed funding roundThe round was led by BEST FundsThe company intends to use the funds to continue to expand operations. Led by Jeff Weber, Chief Executive Officer, ZoneTV is advancing a platform that combines traditional Pay TV and OTT to deliver programming to TV households through top-tier distribution partners and to generate new advertising and subscription revenue-share opportunities.

  • Ovizio Imaging Systems, a Brussels, Belgium-based developer of cell counting solutions based on quantitative microscopy for life sciences applications, secured a funding round of €8 million ($9.1 million). The round was co-led by New Science Ventures and an unnamed private investor with participation from Qbic, Nausicaa Ventures, Theodorus III, Mr. Pierre Drion and a few other private investors. The company intends to use the funds to accelerate its commercial activities in the bioprocessing market, to develop its technology and to expand its product offering. More specifically, Ovizio will use the funds to strengthening its core R&D team with five new hires this year and a further ten in 2016.

  • A group of entrepreneurs developing a network so that different healthcare facilities can more easily share patient information has completed $9.6 million fundraise in a two part Series A round led by Google Ventures and FPrime CapitalPatientPing will use the funding to increase the number of states where it has a presence and to add staff. Other investors that contributed to the round include First Round Capital and SV Angel.

  • Varentec, a Santa Clara, CA-based provider of grid edge Volt-VAR control solutions, raised $13 million in the first closing of its Series C financing. The round was led by 3M New Ventures, with participation from existing investors Bill Gates and Khosla VenturesThe company intends to use the funds for the expansion of its software applications and real-time advanced power electronics capabilities, as well as the international deployment of its GEMS™ software platform and ENGO grid edge control devices.

  • LoveCrafts, a crafting community, marketplace and e-commerce startup, has knitted together a $20 million Series B round. The funding is being led by Highland Europe, with participation from existing investor Balderton CapitalLoveCrafts says it will use the new capital to invest in its technology and to grow revenue, name-checking the U.S. and German markets specifically.

  • Signostics, a start-up innovator in the field of highly miniaturized ultrasound technology, today announced a private investment of $35 million dollars from KKR, a leading global investment firm. With the backing of this new investment by KKR, Signostics intends to deliver a growing suite of practical, powerful and versatile new devices designed to become a key element in a clinical professional’s toolkit.
