Since 1997, after completing his two residency programs in six years, Donald Sonn has been practicing medicine at the Urology Group of Western New England in Springfield, Massachusetts. Sonn is medically trained in minimally invasive surgeries, specifically the da Vinci Surgical System and the GreenLight Laser Therapy, which is used uniquely for Benign Prostate Hyperplasia, or BPH, which is commonly known as an enlarged prostate.

An enlarged prostate is a non-cancerous condition that affects most men over the age of sixty. With age, the possibility of having BPH increases, but some men show signs of the condition at the age of forty. Donald Sonn recommends men to get checked, especially as they get older as more than ninety percent of men over the age of eighty are affected by an enlarged prostate.

The systems of benign prostate hyperplasia can cause problems in urine flow. Though non-cancerous, the condition can still be lifestyle changing to those who have it. The cause of prostate enlargement is still unknown, and there has yet to be created a complete cover up for the disease.
