That is enough time to walk around earth more than 845 times or travel to the moon 225,000 times

Renowned VolP service Skype has a lot to celebrate Wednesday, as the company announced that its 280 million users are now connecting on the service for over two billion minutes a day.

To put into perspective, Skype came up with a list of stats about what you can accomplish with that amount of time.

"That’s enough time to travel to the moon and back over 225 thousand times, walk around Earth more than 845 times or travel to Mars more than 5,400 times," Skype wrote.

"2 billion minutes is more than 33 million hours of people singing, laughing, joking and staying in touch. That means 1,388,000 days of togetherness which make up more than 3,805 years of sharing or nearly 38 centuries of time spent on Skype in one day."

You can also fly around the world by plane over 7,000 times, watch more than 16 million movies or run 6.6 million marathons.

"2 billion minutes is a testament to our users who are making Skype the everyday communications hub that brings people together. This massive amount of connection – enough time to watch 1.6 million movies – is also a testament to the hard work of our product teams who have enabled these great experiences. Whether making a voice or video call, sending an instant messagesharing a file or connecting with a group of friends, now more than ever before, Skype brings people together whenever they are apart," said Skype.

This news has to be especially cathartic for Skype, a company that was forced to changed hands a number of hands since first being released in 2003.

The company was first purchased by eBay for $2.6 billion in 2005, before it was sold for $2.75 billion in 2009 to investor group led by Silver Lake. The company was then purchased by Microsoft for $8 billion in cash in May of 2011, and it seems to have finally found a good home there.

In fact, Microsoft seems so happy with the service that most recently it was announced that Microsoft will actually be phasing out its long-standing Windows Live Messenger instant messaging service in favor of Skype. The upgrade from Messenger to Skype on Windows desktop will start on April 8.

Skype, of course, offers many features that it will be bringing to Messenger users including emoticons, group instant messaging, screen sharing, instant message conversation history, the ability to edit and remove instant messages, being able to share files and contact information, video calling and instant messaging with Facebook friends, and group video calling.
