Fotopedia, the company that brought you mesmerizing photographs of sites as near and far as Paris, Japan, and North Korea (among others), shines again with another gem. The company released its latest app, Morocco, Wednesday. The app is the first from Fotopedia designed specifically for the Retina display on the new iPad.
The company also announced that page views have jumped 70% just in the last month and is now serving up 200 million images per month.
Like Fotopedia’s other apps, Morocco features high-resolution images of people, art and architecture, cultural traditions, landscapes, and more. The app includes photos from Casablanca, Marrakesh, Tangier, Fez, and the World Heritage sites of Meknes, Tetouan, Essaouira or El Jadida. And while browsing through photos of snake charmers, Moorish architecture, and breathtaking landscapes, users can also check out visual stories and interactive maps, or even take a virtual tour of the country using the app’s Trip Builder.
“Our mission is to help people discover the beauty of the world,” said CEO Jean Marie Hullot in a statement. “I am very pleased to be able to share this new app, featuring the extraordinary photography of acclaimed photographer Jacques Bravo on the extraordinary Retina display of the new iPad.”
Fotopedia’s combined iOS apps have seen 10 million downloads to date, up from five million in November 2011, when the company released the Japan app. The company launched its first app, Heritage, in August 2010, which later became one of 50 apps to be inducted into Apple’s App Hall of Fame.
