No. 1 mistake: They don't properly plan for the multitude of things that can and will go wrong

Vator’s community is the home to entrepreneurs who embrace their passion and follow their dreams.

Our newly-designed profiles allow members to express themselves by sharing their interests, lessons learned, as well as bits and pieces of their roller-coaster journey.

These profiles give entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase themselves and tell their story.

So if you are an entrepreneur, a serial entrepreneur, or even an aspiring entrepreneur, we'd like to hear from you.

Today’s entrepreneur is John Kim, Founder and Managing Principal at IP Legal Advisors.

According to his VEQ, John is good at  negotiation, networking and marketing management.

I am: An Entrepreneur

Name companies you've founded or co-founded:
IP Legal Advisors, P.C. (www.ipla.com)

Name companies you've invested in:
Apple, JDSU

Name startups you worked for:
IP Legal Advisors, P.C. (www.ipla.com)

If you are an entrepreneur, why?
I'm an independent thinker and I like the freedom of being able to take any business idea or concept into the marketplace to see, if through proper execution of my business strategy, it will be successful.

List your favorite startups:
Zynga, Facebook, Groupon, Skype

What's most frustrating and rewarding about entrepreneurship/innovation?
The most frustrating thing is that things never move as quickly as you want them to. Everything needs to be done yesterday, but it is not until the day after tomorrow that things get done (usually). The most rewarding thing is validating your original hypothesis that a business idea/concept would work and seeing your goals met or exceeded, which is usually part of the validation

What's the No. 1 mistake entrepreneurs make?
They do not properly plan for the multitude of things that can and will go wrong from small things like support to large things like revamping the entire business model.

What are the top three lessons you've learned as an entrepreneur?
I've learned that my vision is not always the right vision and I need to be flexible and change if necessary. I've also learned that not everything can be done by me and a successful business must be run by many. In addition, I've learned that change is the only constant and that if you're not able to adapt to change, you will not be successful.

IP Legal Advisors ("IPLA") is a different kind of trademark law firm. Unlike our competitors, we pride ourselves on personal attention to our clients' needs and efficient management of our clients' matters.

We have developed a highly sophisticated and cost-effective "flat fee" billing system for all domestic and international trademark matters that can be tailored to the individual needs of our clients. No other trademark firm has the experience, ability or the guts to offer such a flat fee system. Whether you are a start up or a Fortune 50 company, we understand the importance of keeping within budgets and we will not stray from our mission of providing you with superior services while saving you money.

We have worked with clients of all sizes from virtually every industry imaginable. The considerable experience that our attorneys bring to the table allows us to confidently handle your matters quickly and cost-effectively. Unlike every other trademark firm in America, we do not rely on paralegals to run our practice. We believe that only attorneys are qualified to manage and handle your important trademark assets and we do not pass this responsibility onto non-attorneys.

Once you have experienced the level of personal attention that we provide at IPLA, we are confident that you will understand why we are so loved by our clients and so envied by our competitors.
