Company helps businesses and other groups create their own internal social networks

SocialGO, a service that enables anyone to build an internal social network, announced Thursday that it has raised $2.2 million to launch the second version of its community-building service. The company previously raised $800,000 from Veddis Ventures.

Here are some screenshots of the new platform, which is currently in a closed beta:

Any business or group that would like its own internal, independent social network can use SocialGo to build communities that are completely customizable--from appearance to privacy options to permissions. Designing the network is as easy as dragging and dropping tools, so that it’s simple enough for beginners to do. Actual developer skills do come in handy for implementing more complex features, though.

As for what features a SocialGO-built network actually provides, just think to the basic offerings at Facebook and Myspace. Users get their own profile that they can personalize to their liking. Within the network, users can communicate via a built-in messaging system as well as text and video chat. Users can join public and private groups within the network as well as public and private events. Even further, SocialGO offers blogging, forums and media (photos, videos) uploads entirely in-house.

The social network even allows for Facebook and Twitter registration, speeding up the login process.

Conveniently, the entire community is hosted on SocialGO’s end, so the client need not worry about maintaining a server or scaling.

SocialGO says it currently hosts 200,000 sites serving 3.5 million users monthly. Clients include Levis, Hilton Hotels, French Presidential Candidates and Oxfam.

Other startups in this space include Ning and Webjam.
