Volkswagen, the largest carmaker in Europe, targets to produce more than 10 million vehicles in a year by 2015. The company also has a short term target of more than 8 million vehicles a year by 2012. Though no official news on this, industry experts expect Volkswagen to reach the target well in advance. Previously the company aimed at 10 million vehicles a year by 2018.
Volkswagen is in the close competition with Toyota and working hard to become the largest auto-maker in the world.
The company aims to increase its production to 3 million cars in next four years from its Chinese plants. Volkswagen will invest more than $8 billion to double its production in China. Chinese sales for the company increased around 40% during the first nine months of this year. The carmaker is also planning to increase its production in Russia and the US.
Volkswagen sold around 6.3 million cars in 2009. The company expects the same trend will continue this year as well, as it is unveiling 70 new models in 2010.
