Most entrepreneurs start their businesses as local businesses that have a target of small geographical areas. The marketing strategies used in such a business differ greatly from those which are used by large corporations and national business organizations. While large businesses can afford whole marketing departments, a local business can barely employ more than a handful of employees in the whole business. In marketing, local businesses are therefore faced with a daunting task and the entrepreneur has to come up with a strategy that considers the culture of the target group and their tastes as well. The capacity of the business to implement the plan is a very crucial factor in the development of the strategy. It is a waste of resources to come up with a masterpiece marketing strategy and then lack the capacity to implement it.

Relationships and social networks within the community should be the first consideration by the entrepreneur. In small tightly-knit communities, the word of mouth is given a lot of consideration. This presents the entrepreneur with a channel to get the word out that there is a new business in town. Complicated details about the offerings can be left out. Simple explanations can be given such that the person knows the location of the business and the industry in which it offers products. Those who are interested in trying out your offerings can be furnished with further details once they visit the premises or websites if you sell online.

Having a grand opening may seem expensive but it has great rewards to your business. You can have a grand opening after you have been in operation for some time. The already acquired customers will help you in spreading the word around. You can also sell products at reduced prices for the day of the opening so that you attract people but you do not incur losses. Consumers who come to your premises during the grand opening will spread the word about your business and its offerings. You may also plan for giveaways and other gifts for those who attend the opening.
