Sanofi makes $270M bet that a startup’s AI tech can boost its cancer drug R&D. Sanofi wants to see how digital technologies can improve its cancer drug research and it’s committing $270 million to artificial intelligence and precision medicine startup Owkin to begin a multi-drug alliance. H1: H1 is a New York-based LinkedIn for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. H1 has raised $100 million in Series C funding led by Altimeter Capital, with participation from Goldman Sachs, Flex Capital, and earlier backers IVP, Menlo Ventures, Transformation Capital, Lux Capital and LeadEdge. H1 has raised $171 million to date. Read more
Trusted: Trusted is a San Francisco-base labor marketplace for healthcare professionals. Trusted has raised $94 million in Series C funding led by led by Greenspring Associates. The round brings the company's total funding, including from earlier backers Felicis Ventures and Craft Ventures, to $175 million. Read more
Aptihealth: Aptihealth is a Boston-based behavioral health engagement company. Aptihealth has raised $50 million in Series B funding. Investors in the round, which brings the company's total funding to $65 million, include Takeda Digital Ventures, Pivotal Life Sciences, Vista Credit Partners, Olive Tree Ventures, Claritas Capital and What If Ventures. PathologyWatch: PathologyWatch is developing AI to help physicians better identify and treat patients who are at risk for skin cancer, using the technology to make more accurate diagnoses. PathologyWatch raised $25 million in Series B financing to keep building that out. The funding came from Ceros Capital Markets, Rock Creek Capital, Springtide Capital, Spark Growth Ventures, Blueprint Health, Blackbrook Management Group, and existing investors. Read more
MedArrive: MedArrive is a New York-based healthcare platform that helps payers and providers shift more care into the home by coordinating with emergency medical services (EMS) professionals, nurses and community health workers. MedArrive has raised $25 million in Series A funding. Section 32 led the round, joined by 7wireVentures, Leaps by Bayer, and earlier investors Define Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, and Redesign Health. GlossGenius: GlossGenius a New York-based business solution for the beauty and wellness industry announced it has raised $19.2M in funding to-date, which includes a $16.4M Series A led by Bessemer Venture Partners. Angel investors include Tobias Lutke (co-founder & CEO of Shopify), Chris Comparato (co-founder & CEO of Toast) and Robert Murphy (co-founder of Mindbody). Read more
PayZen: PayZen is a San Francisco-based "care-now-pay-later" startup that says it uses AI to underwrite patients’ medical debt and allow them to pay for their care over time in installments. PayZen has raised $15 million in Series A funding. SignalFire led the round, joined by Link Ventures, 7WireVentures and earlier backers Viola Ventures and Picus Capital. Read more
Ribbon Health: Ribbon Health is a New York-based startup that says it offers a health data API platform that delivers data across providers, insurance, conditions and procedures treated, as well as cost and quality metrics. Ribbon Health has raised $43.5 million in Series B funding. General Catalyst led the round, joined by new and earlier investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, BoxGroup, Rock Health, and a 'doctorpreneur,' Sachin Jain. Read more
Cognixion: Cognixion is a Santa Barbara, Ca.-based startup designing an intuitive brain-monitoring headset and interface for people with physical disabilities. Cognixion has raised $12 million in Series A funding led by Prime Movers Lab, with participation by Northwell Health, Amazon Alexa Fund and Volta Circle. Read more Digital coaching platform
TaskHuman: TaskHuman is a digital health platform which eliminate all of that inefficiency by automatically connecting people to live coaches within minutes, when and where they already are. TaskHuman raised $9.5 million in a Series A funding round led by USVP, with participation from new investors Madrona Venture Group and RingCentral Ventures, along with existing investor Impact Venture Group, and angel investors including Baron Davis, Sanjay Mehrotra, Gopi Kallayil and Somesh Khanna.
