The Amazon problem in healthcare; Are mental health apps living up to their promise?
Invent Health with Dr. Archana Dubey and Bambi Francisco Roizen; Episode 7
The Invent Health weekly podcast with Dr. Archana Dubey and Bambi Francisco Roizen is the only weekly podcast that breaks down the latest digital health news of the week and what it means for patients, providers and payers (or who's paying). Plus a deep dive on a particular topic to help listeners understand how innovation is changing the healthcare paradigm.
This week, Archana and Bambi cover Amazon Care and its first customer Precor. They discuss its impact and why its standalone attempt brings it back to its consumer-focus vs its partnership with Berkshire Hathaway and JP Morgan. They also talk about Amazon's pay-per-usage model and how that is different than fee-for-service. The two also talk about Lyra's potential $200 million raise at a $4 billion valuation, just a few months after raising $187 million at a valuation of $2.3 billion. They also touch base on the downside of tele-mental health apps and whether they're living up to their promise. For their deep dive, they discuss the risk factors that are modifiable or non-modifiable, such as gender, age, ethnicity, genetics and to what extent lifestyle changes can effect diseases given the non-modifiable risks. Finally, they look at Vator's mental health market map to give a visualization of where the mental health opportunities are in the future.
Editor's note: On May 19 we will be hosting the Future of Mental and Behavioral Health 2021 virtual event. We'll have top-level VCs and C-level executives from the leading mental and behavioral companies, such as Teladoc's BetterHelp, Amwell, Doctor on Demand, Kaiser Permanente, Bessemer Ventures and more.
