CB Insights landed $10M; SkySpecs raised $1.15M; InnoUp Farma secured $1.5M;
- CB Insights, a private company database that provides real-time information on companies, their investors, their acquirers and the industries they compete. Big things are happening at the company, which just raised its first ever venture funding, and debuted some new products to help its customers get the most from its data. the company announced on Monday that it has raised a $10 million Series A round. The funding came from RSTP. The new funding will go toward building out the team, growing from 60 employees currently to 120 by the end of next year. Specifically the company will be hiring on the business development and sales side. product and engineering side.
- A beauty and wellness services marketplace startup, BigStylist.com, has raised pre-Series A funding of $1 million from Info Edge, the owner of online classifieds Naukri and 99acres. Founded by Richa Singh, Chinmaya Sharma, and Anurag Srivastava (all IIT Kharagpur graduates), BigStylist is trying to revolutionize the way beauty and wellness services industry works in India. In less than three months, BigStylist claims to have served more than 3000 customers in Mumbai.
- Cybric, a provider of continuous security delivery fabric for today’s modern enterprise infrastructure, today announced it has closed $1.3 million in seed funding led by Petrillo Capital and accompanied by angel and strategic investors. Cybric is pioneering the next-generation of cyber-automation and threat remediation and will use this seed funding round to accelerate research and product development.
- iStar Skill Development, a skill-training company, has raised Rs 10 crore (approximately $1.5 million) led by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. Unitus Seed Fund, an early investor in iSTAR, also participated in this round. This takes total funds raised by the company to Rs 13 crore (approximately $1.5 million). Bengaluru-based iSTAR was launched by IIM-A graduates Surga Thilakan and Sreeraman Vaidyanathan in 2010 to deliver skill training and recruitment services to undergraduate students from 150 arts and science colleges across Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, providing services to 17,000 students with a focus on the low and mid-income segments.
- US-based parenting app Baby Bundle has raised a $1.8 million seed round and unveiled a partnership with the UK’s Mumsnet platform as it looks to expand internationally. The freemium app launched in the US and Canada in April last year and has been named one of Apple’s Editor’s Choice platforms for helping parents remember appointments and monitor their child’s progress, as well as acting as a reference guide for new mums and dads. The cash comes from an Asian family office, as well as angels including Founders Forum cofounder Jonnie Goodwin.
- Zilingo Pte Ltd., a mobile-first marketplace that connects sellers in Thailand to shoppers in southeast Asia, has raised $1.88 million in a funding round led by Sequoia Capital India, Teruhido Sato of Beenext Ventures and Freecharge co-founders Kunal Shah and Sandeep Tandon. Bangkok, Thailand-based Zilingo will use the funds to beef up its infrastructure to expand the number of sellers. More than 300 of them have signed up so far and around 700 more will go live on the site by mid-November. Categories of products will be expanded as well. Currently fashion and electronics items are available.
- InnoUp Farma, S.L., a Noain, Spain-based nanomedicine company focused on developing and licensing high-value therapies for major diseases with unmet medical needs, raised €2 million (approximately $2.14 million) in public-private funding. Backers included Navarra’s Government public company Sodena, Inveready (via INNVIERTE Biotech II) and the Spain Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
- SkySpecs Inc., an Ann Arbor-based company that provides drones for the inspection of wind turbines, bridges and other infrastructure projects, has closed on an investment round of $3 million. The company has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to fly its drones, has landed its first two customers and hopes to hit at least $1 million in revenue next year. The investment round was led by Jim Adox, managing director of the Ann Arbor office of Madison, Wis.-based Venture Investors LLC, and joined by Ann Arbor-based Huron River Partners, Detroit-based Invest Michigan and some angel investors.
- H2O.ai, a Mountain View, Calif.-based provider of an open source machine learning platform, raised $20 million in Series B funding. The round was led by Paxion Capital Partners with participation from existing investors Nexus Venture Partners and Transamerica Corporation and new investor Capital One Growth Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Michael Marks, founding partner of Paxion, joined H2O.ai’s board. The company, which has now raised $34 million in total funding, intends to use capital to scale sales, marketing and customer success teams, grow customers and community, build an ecosystem of partners on the platform and its delivery via the Steam and Sparkling Water products.
- QD Vision, a quantum dot technology for QLED displays, announced a new round of investment led by Tsing Capital and BASF Venture Capital, prominent venture capital entities in Europe and China focused on innovative cleantech companies. This new round of QD Vision financing – totaling approximately $22 million from both existing investors and new investors – will be used to invest in further development of intellectual property inventions and to support the company’s accelerating growth.
