Spotify adds TuneWiki app to sync songs with lyrics
A music community app joins the Spotify Platform to add song lyrics for the music you stream
For those of you that love to sing at the top of your lungs and want to know all the lyrics of the songs you are playing on Spotify, a new application launched Wednesday morning will sync your music with the streaming lyrics on your screen.
The new app is called TuneWiki and currently has a database of more than 6 million songs.
The four-year-old company, based in Santa Monica, Calif., allows users to share and discuss their favorite lyrics with friends, discover new music through, and read the synced lyrics.
This app also allows you to adjust the size of the font displying the lyrics, how many lyrics are showing and the display scheme. I see some karaoke options in my very near future because of this feature.
Perviously, the company was focused on music game and lyric applications such as Lyric Legend and TuneWIki phone app.
In order to launch the TuneWiki app on Spotify, you simply have to go to the App Finder section of the dashboard and find the application, it will then show up and sync with songs that are within its database.
There is also the ability to add lyrics to songs directly inside Spotify for those lyrics that have not yet been synced.
TuneWIki encourages its users to be a part of the community by contributing song lyrics to better the database and interact with the songs such as checking-in on their song map so that listeners can see who and where the people listening to that song are.
"We are constantly looking to give music fans a deeper connection to the lyrics and songs they love," Larry Goldberg, CEO of TuneWiki, said in a statement. "There is no better way to do that than take our unique syncing technology and enormous lyrics database and give Spotify users the opportunity to view the lyrics to their favorite songs while they're actually listening to music."
This app is a part of the growing Spotify Platform that was launched on November 30, where third-parties can create music-based applications that work on the Spotify network such as Last.fm, Sounddrop, Moodagent and Pitchfork.
Two weeks ago, Spotify added its own radio application called Spotify Radio. This app lets the user create an unlimited number of radio stations, as opposed to Pandora's 100 station limit. Also Spotify Radio users will be able to skip through as many songs as they want, while Pandora allows their users only six skips per hour -- and Spotify also has a much bigger library of music than Pandora.
"Today Spotify brings music to the party and becomes a music platform, with the launch of truly integrated apps inside Spotify from the best and brightest," Daniel Ek, CEO and Founder of Spotify, said in a statement. "We've worked closely with TuneWiki to deliver a unique app, layering even more fun and social musical experiences into Spotify."
Spotify now has more than 10 million users and is available on mobile devices, Windows and Mac.

Last.fm is a social networking company which revolves around its music recommendation engine. Recommendations are made by comparing user data to the rest of the Last.fm user community. This community gives more potential to grow into media other than music. This is most likely a reason why media giant, CBS, acquired Last.fm for $280 million in May of 2007.Last.fm grew from very modest funding compared to its competitors Pandora, ilike, MyStrands and others.
