Having recently raised a new round of funding, UberMedia looks to a future without TweetDeck

UberMedia on Tuesday launched Uber50 for iPhone, the 50 Cent-themed version of UberSocial, the company’s flagship Twitter application. The app is also available on BlackBerry.

Uber50 comes in two flavors: the basic version is free, but it’s just UberSocial dressed up in a 50 Cent-stylized skin.

The $1.99 “Deluxe G’d Up Edition” comes packaged with the “Gritty Darkside theme,” a few 50 Cent sound effects (in case you want to hear gunshots whenever someone mentions you), wallpapers for the mobile home screen and a chance for 50 Cent to give you a shout out on Twitter.

The app isn’t actually a standalone version you can find on the App Store. First, you have to download UberSocial, and then you upgrade to Uber50 from within the app.

Uber50 arrives on the scene just a little bit after UberSocial launched a Twitter app specially designed for fans of actor-turned-tech nerd Ashton Kutcher, though that application is for the desktop, not mobile. A.plus works much like other third-party Twitter clients, except that it features a large sidebar for previewing websites, videos and photos. And, of course, the application puts a focus on Kutcher’s channels and projects he’s interested in, as a budding entrepreneur and investor.

UberMedia has been recovering, figuratively speaking, from the loss of TweetDeck, which it had expected to acquire for around $30 million. Instead, Twitter ended up winning the service for a reported $40 to $50 million.

It’s not quite a pivot, but we can expect UberMedia to chase more creative avenues like these celebrity-sponsored clients to keep its business fresh and afloat, since it is now competing directly with Twitter's official apps. Luckily, the company just grabbed itself another $5 million in funding, so it appears to be standing strong.

By the way, download and use Uber50 at your own risk. Apparently the app might be just a little bit too hardcore for some hoods:

Includes gunfire and other sounds that might not be suitable in all locations. Be smart and turn down your volume appropriately--you could be held responsible for people's reactions to the sounds. Laws concerning the use of this software may vary. We do not encourage or condone the use of this program if it is in violation of any laws.

Yikes!
