The social gaming giant on Tuesday rolled out a trailer for Adventure World, a Facebook game shaping up to be more of an exploration and adventure game than many other Zynga games.
Zynga has not yet set a timetable for the game’s launch.
(Watch the trailer below. Prepare yourself: it will look and sound and feel exactly like Indiana Jones, but it’s not.)
“Explore exotic lands, solve ancient puzzles, adventure with friends,” declares a voice in the trailer.
Based on what little info we have, Adventure World actually appears to fall more in line with Zynga’s latest Facebook launch, Pioneer Trail, which itself was a spinoff of FrontierVille. Whereas in FrontierVille, players built up their homestead on the frontier, Pioneer Trail actually placed gamers on an adventure in search of a kidnapped child.
So far, the game is seeing 3.3 million daily active users, with 19.1 million uniques for the month, according to AppData. Those are good numbers, but they’re not nearly as promising as those seen by EA’s The Sims Social, which sees 7.4 million daily active users and 22.2 million total uniques so far.
If Zynga is grappling with restoring the magic that made CityVille, and FarmVille before it, a number one title, it’s certainly not having trouble with quantity.
The company has been rapidly releasing new games recently, even moreso than usual. Besides Pioneer Trail, recent launches include Empires & Allies, CityVille in China, CityVille Hometown, Words With Friends on Facebook, and Hanging with Friends.
On the business side of things, Zynga is reportedly delaying its initial public offering until the fall, a decision said to be based on poor market conditions. Though the gaming company filed its S-1 when the economy was still good to newly public tech companies, especially social companies like LinkedIn, the climate has since chilled quite a bit.
