CarbonCart.com is an eco-conscious e-commerce site carrying Ingram Book Group's entire book inventory.  CarbonCart.com allows consumers to carbon neutralize their internet shopping.

By placing your order through CarbonCart.com,  carbon credits will be purchased to pay for renewable energy initiatives, reforestation or energy efficiency projects that offset the carbon dioxide generated in the shipping of your order.

Business model

Press Update:  Many older articles report us being affiliated with Amazon.com.  In late 2008 Amazon.com determined CarbonCart.com to be a threat to their share of the e-commerce market via brand recognition (our brand is ultimately better), and would no longer do business with us.  Fortunately we are now working with Ingram Book Group, a subsidiary of Barns & Noble.  Books will be shipped directly from fulfillment centers owned by Ingram in Tennessee.

Management Bio

" The students came up with the CarbonCart concept last year. The for-profit CarbonCart LLC business was created and is owned by Probus, 19, a business administration student from Sammamish; and Ryan Tilton, 19, a computer science student from Duvall. Joining them on the project are Laura Hanes, 19, a marketing student from Bonney Lake; and Kevin McFarland, 18, a student from Bellevue who is studying economics and classics.

They're drawing in part on Tilton's experience as an entrepreneur, which is already extensive despite his age. By his count, CarbonCart is his fifth venture. He started as a teenager selling audio subwoofers, and later tried portable hard drives. In addition, he ran an e-commerce site called stockthat.com, which provided some insights and lessons the students are now applying to CarbonCart."

I really like this site and the concept behind it. This is a brilliant way to utilize and add tangible value to the carbon credit market. As a front end to Amazon you are giving the mainsteam consumer the ability to "buy in" to these carbon offsetting projects. Great job!
